Alina Tomnikov (born 24 June 1988) is a Finnish-Russian actress and writer.

Early life

Alina Tomnikov was born on 24 June 1988 in Kerava, Finland to a Russian father and Finnish mother. Her parents met in Saint Petersburg, where her mother was studying to be physician. The family moved to Finland in the late 1980s. [1] She graduated from Helsinki Theatre Academy with a master's degree in 2013. [2]

Her cousin is ice hockey player Rami Määttä. [3]

Career

In 2017, Tomnikov made her Russian acting debut, starring as Princess Wilhelmina of Hesse-Darmstadt / Her Highness Natalya Alexeyevna in historical television series Ekaterina . [4] She joined the cast of the ninth season of the sketch comedy television show Putous in 2018. [5] In 2018, she starred in the titular role in Yle's drama series Donna, portraying a blind woman seeking love after being left by her husband. [6]

In 2023, Tomnikov starred in her debut leading role in Pamela Tola's drama film The Worst Idea Ever . [7] She was honored the Shooting Stars Award by European Film Promotion. [8] She released her first novel, Käännä hirviö kylkiasentoon on 30 August 2023. [9]

Personal life

Tomnikov married director and cinematographer Lauri Laukkanen on 7 July 2019. [10] She gave birth to their first child in August 2023. [11]

A 2011 poll showed that 66% of Finnish respondents considered Finland to be a racist country but only 14% admitted to being racist themselves. Minority groups facing the most negative attitudes were Finnish Kale, Somalis, and ethnic groups mostly consisting of Muslims. Many Finnish people believe that Finns played little or no role in colonialism, a view known as "Finnish exceptionalism". However, Finns did settle while not an independent people the Sámi land in the north and were involved in European colonial projects in Africa and North America. Finns at the time were subjects of Sweden and later the Russian Empire, which has been used to excuse their participation in colonialism.

Roba is a Finnish police drama television series. The series follows the daily life of Helsinki Police Department's uniformed police unit located on the Pieni Roobertinkatu ("Roba") street. The HX Fighter Program is a fighter jet procurement program of the Finnish Ministry of Defence, aiming to acquire multirole fighters for Finland to replace the current Hornet fighters. If completed, the acquisition will be the most expensive state purchase ever made by Finland. The project started in autumn 2015 and the Government decided to procure 64 Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft in December 2021. According to the project schedule, the new aircraft would arrive in Finland around 2025–2030.
