It is endemic to the Balearic Islands. [1] It has also been introduced in several localities in the Iberian Peninsula (Banyuls-sur-Mer, Barcelona, Sitges and Tarragona) but, nowadays, only the population from Tarragona city walls is still alive. [4]
The distribution of this taxon follows a phylogeographical pattern, where distribution ranges of the five subspecies are well delimited. [3] Two subspecies are present in Mallorca, two in Eivissa and another one in Menorca. Allognathus campanyonii campanyonii is mainly distributed in the lower areas of Mallorca Island as well as in the Cabrera archipelago. Besides, the populations from Tarragona city walls belongs to this phylogroup. In Mallorca, we can also find the taxa A. campanyonii n. ssp., that is present in the southern Tramuntana Mountains. A. c. tanitianus and A. c. pythiusensis are the two taxa distributed in the Pityusic Islands, where the first one is present in Eivissa main island and Formentera whereas, the second one is present in Ses Bledes archipelago, although it is also present in several populations in Eivissa main Island. [3] Finally, in Menorca Island we can find A. c. minoricensis, where two main phylogroups were recovered. [3]
Helicidae is a large, diverse family of small to large, air-breathing land snails, sometimes called the "typical snails."
Actinella is a genus of land snails in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies.
Allognathus graellsianus is a species of land snail in the family Helicidae, the true snails. It is endemic to Mallorca, one of Spain's Balearic Islands. This taxa is the type species of the genus Allognathus.
Allognathus is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Helicidae, the true snails. The genus is endemic to the Balearic Islands being present in all major islands and in several small islets. The genus colonized the archipelago from the south-eastern Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Miocene, throughout a land-bridge connection. The different species belonging to Allognathus live in crevice rocks or under stones.
Discula bulverii is a species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae.
Geomitra is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies.
Xerotricha bierzona is a species of air-breathing land snail, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies. This species is endemic to Spain.
Montserratina is a genus of land snails in the family Canariellidae.
Plentuisa vendia is a species of land snail in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies. It is endemic to Spain.
Ponentina is a genus of small air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Geomitridae. the hairy snails and their allies.
Xerocrassa is a genus of small, air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies.
Xerocrassa caroli is a species of air-breathing land snail, a pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies. This species is endemic to Spain, where it occurs in the Pityusic islands of Ibiza and Formentera. The species joined at least 8 subspecies.
Xerocrassa cisternasi is a species of air-breathing land snail, a pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies. This species is endemic to Spain, where it is restricted to the north-eastern part of the island of Ibiza and the surrounding islets. The species joined at least 10 subspecies
Orexana ultima is a species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae, the hairy snails and their allies; the species is endemic to Fuerteventura island.
Allognathus hispanicus is a species of land snail in the family Helicidae, the true snails. This species is endemic to Mallorca, one of Spain's Balearic Islands. The common name is "caragol de Serp", due to the pattern of it shell.
Xeroplexa setubalensis is a species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae. This species is endemic to Portugal. The taxa was previously placed within the genus Candidula until a molecular phylogenetic study revealed its current status. This taxon is the type species of the genus Xeroplexa.
Xeroplexa strucki is a species of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae. Although named by Maltzan (1886), no differences from X. olisippensis were indicated and Gittenberger therefore treated them as synonyms. However, the present study has revealed that the W. Algarve populations named as strucki and similar snails from the coast of W. Baixo Alentejo differ consistently in having a much shorter penial flagellum.
Cernuellopsis is a genus of air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Geomitridae. It contains a single species, Cernuellopsis ghisottii. This species is endemic to the Italian Peninsula.
