The America East men's basketball tournament, popularly known as the America East Playoffs, is the annual concluding tournament for the NCAA college basketball in the America East Conference. The winner of the annual tournament gains an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship.

Format and hosts

As of 2013, the first rounds take place at a single location, usually the home arena of one of the conference schools, but the championship game is hosted the next weekend by the higher remaining seed. The 2013 and 2014 Tournament preliminary rounds were hosted by the University at Albany. Beginning in 2015, the format was changed from a single location in the first rounds to multiple locations. For every round, including the finals the higher seeded team in each game hosts. After the first round, teams are reseeded to account for upsets that may have occurred.

Beginning with the 2018 edition, the last place team in the conference standings will not take part in the tournament. This change was made due to the impending eligibility of UMass Lowell for NCAA-sponsored postseason play, following the completion of the school's transition from NCAA Division II. [1]

The America East Conference (AmEast) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I whose members are located in the Northeastern United States. The conference is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Chase Family Arena at Reich Family Pavilion, commonly called the Sports Center or the Reich Family Pavilion, is a 4,017-seat multi-purpose arena in West Hartford, Connecticut. Home to the University of Hartford Hawks men's and women's basketball teams, the arena opened on January 25, 1990, and was dedicated to the Chase family and the Reich family, both of West Hartford, in 1998 and 2004, respectively. It hosted the 2010 and 2011 America East Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments. In 2015 the men's basketball locker room was expanded and refurbished.

The Mid-American Conference men's basketball tournament is an NCAA Division I postseason single-elimination tournament. The winner of the tournament receives the Mid-American Conference (MAC) automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. As of 2021, the top eight teams in conference play qualify for the tournament. Since 2000, the MAC Tournament has been held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland and is planned to be held there through at least 2030. The finals are broadcast on ESPN2 while the semifinals on CBS Sports Network & the quarterfinals are on ESPN+ for streaming.

The MAAC men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1982, the MAAC's first season. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The MAAC did not receive its automatic bid from the NCAA until 1984.

The Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in men's basketball for the Big Sky Conference. The event has been held annually since 1976, the conference's thirteenth year.

The West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament is the annual concluding tournament for the NCAA college basketball in the West Coast Conference (WCC). The winner of the tournament each year is guaranteed a place in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament for that season. Through 2008, the tournament was played on a rotating basis at the home courts of member teams. The 2009 edition was the first played at a neutral site, namely Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada, just outside Las Vegas. The 2009–10 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 9, 2009, and ended with the 2010 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament's championship game on April 5, 2010, on the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The opening round occurred on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, followed by first and second rounds on Thursday through Sunday, March 18–21, 2010. The 2019 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 teams to determine the national champion for the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 38th annual edition of the tournament began on March 22, and concluded with the championship game on April 7 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, with the University of South Florida serving as host. The tournament field was announced on March 18.

The 2018 America East Conference women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the America East Conference held from October 25 through November 4, 2018. The five-match tournament took place at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The defending champions were the Stony Brook Seawolves, who were unable to defend their title after losing in the Quarterfinals to UMass Lowell. Albany won their third tournament in 4 years after a 5–1 victory in the final.

The 2018 America East men's soccer tournament was the 30th edition of the tournament. The tournament decided the America East Conference champion and guaranteed representative into the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. The tournament began on November 3 and concluded on November 11.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018–19 UMBC Retrievers men's basketball team</span> American college basketball season

The 2018–19 UMBC Retrievers men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at the UMBC Event Center in Catonsville, Maryland, with one game being played at their former home, the Retriever Activities Center, and were led by third-year head coach Ryan Odom. They were members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 21–13, 11–5 in America East play to finish in third place. They defeated Albany and Hartford to advance to the championship game of the America East tournament where they lost to Vermont. Despite having 21 wins, they did not participate in a postseason tournament.

The 2021–22 Hartford Hawks men's basketball team represented the University of Hartford in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hawks, led by 12th-year head coach John Gallagher, played their home games at Chase Arena in West Hartford, Connecticut, as members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 12–20, 9–9 in America East play to finish a tie for fifth place. They defeated Albany in the quarterfinals of the America East tournament before losing in the semifinals to UMBC.

The five-match tournament took place at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The defending champions were the Stony Brook Seawolves, who were unable to defend their title after not qualifying for the tournament. Vermont won their first tournament in program history after a 1–0 victory in the final. It was the first victory for eleventh year head coach Kristi Huizenga. As tournament champions, Vermont earned the America East's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.
