Anaswara Rajan (born 8 September 2002) is an Indian actress who primarily works in Malayalam films. She made her acting debut as a child artist in Udaharanam Sujatha (2017). [1] Anaswara received praises for her performance in Super Sharanya (2022) and Neru (2024), winning Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Malayalam for the latter, which became her breakout role. [2]

Early life

Anaswara was born on 8 September 2002 [3] to Rajan and Usha, natives of Karivellur, near Payyanur in Kannur district. [4] She was educated at St. Mary's Girls High School in Payyanur. [5] [6]

Career

Anaswara made her film acting debut with Udaharanam Sujatha (2017), as Athira, the rebellious daughter of Sujatha, played by Manju Warrier. Anaswara played her first leading role in the film Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019). [1] The film, set against the backdrop of a high school that had a heartwarming tale of love, misunderstanding and the struggles of growing up. The film turned out to be a sleeper hit, with Anaswara subsequently gaining fame in the industry. [7] She played a dual role in Adhyarathri (2019) as a daughter and mother. [8]

In 2022, Anaswara played the titular role of an engineering student in Super Sharanya , which emerged a commercial success. [9] Cris of The News Minute stated that she played Sharanya "wonderfully". [10] That year, she made her Tamil debut with the Trisha starrer Raangi . [11]

Anaswara started 2023 with the Tamil film Thugs , alongside Hridhu Haroon. It was an official remake of the Malayalam film Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil . [12] She then made her Hindi film debut with Yaariyan 2 , opposite Meezaan Jafri. [13] A critic from Bollywood Hungama wrote, "Anaswara is lovely but goes over the top in emotional scenes." [14] In the same year, Anaswara played a blind sculptor in Neru , starring Mohanlal. Her performance in the film was well acclaimed and regarded as her career best. [15] Janani K of India Today noted, "As Sara, Anaswara exhibits strength, resilience, trauma and skill with the utmost perfection." [16] The film emerged as the tenth highest grossing Malayalam film of all time. [17]

The film was produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the banner of T-Series Super Cassettes Industries.

Nandalal Krishnamoorthy, better known by his stage name Nandu, is an Indian actor primarily working in Malayalam, and a few Hindi and Tamil films. He has been in the industry for more than 30 years and is acclaimed for his performance in Mohanlal's Spirit, directed by Ranjith. He was also seen in many Priyadarsan films. He received SIIMA award for best supporting actor, for the movie Spirit.

Jeethu made his directional debut with the 2007 police procedural, Detective. He is best known for creating the Drishyam franchise. Drishyam became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, at its time of release. It was the first Malayalam film to cross the 50 crore mark, at the box office. Drishyam 2 was released directly through Amazon Prime Video, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like the prequel, it was highly acclaimed and appreciated, worldwide.

Yaariyan 2 is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age romantic drama film written and directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Aayush Maheshwari under T-Series Films, Rao and Sapru Films and BLM Motion Pictures. <i>Neru</i> (film) 2023 Indian film

Neru is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language courtroom drama film directed by Jeethu Joseph, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Santhi Mayadevi. It was produced and distributed by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas. The film stars Mohanlal alongside Priyamani, Anaswara Rajan, Santhi Mayadevi, Siddique, Sankar Induchoodan, Jagadish and K. B. Ganesh Kumar in the supporting roles.
