The 69th Filmfare Awards South is an awards event that recognised and honoured the best films and performances from the Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films and music released in 2023 along with special honours for lifetime contributions and few special awards. [1] [2] The nominations were announced on 16 July 2024 and took place on 3 August 2024. [3] [4] [5] [6]
Chithha is the most awarded film with seven awards, followed by Dasara with six, Baby and Ponniyin Selvan: II with five, Sapta Saagaradaache Ello [lower-alpha 1] with four, and Balagam, Daredevil Musthafa and Kaathal – The Core with three. Dasara is the most awarded Telugu film. Chithha is the most awarded Tamil film. Kaathal – The Core is the most awarded Malayalam film. Sapta Saagaradaache Ello [lower-alpha 1] is the most awarded Kannada film.
Every Best Film winner have also won the Best Director award, expect for Kannada cinema. Kapil Kapilan is the most awarded individual having won Best Male Playback Singer – Malayalam and Best Male Playback Singer – Kannada, making him the only individual to win an award in two different languages (Malayalam and Kannada). Dasara is the only film to have two lead acting role awards won by Nani (Best Actor – Telugu) and Keerthy Suresh (Best Actress – Telugu).

Jyothika Saravanan, known mononyomusly as Jyothika, is an Indian actress and film producer who predominantly appears in Tamil films in addition to Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films. Appeared in over 50 Films, Jyothika has received several accolades including a National Film Award, five Filmfare Awards South, four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and the Kalaimamani Award. Jyothika is regarded as one of the most prolific actresses in Tamil cinema, and has been ranked among the best actresses of South India by the media.
The Filmfare Awards South are annual awards that honour artistic and technical excellence in the Telugu cinema, Tamil cinema, Malayalam cinema and Kannada cinema. They are presented by Filmfare magazine of The Times Group. When it was introduced in 1954, the Filmfare Awards initially only recognized achievements in the Hindi cinema. In 1964 the awards were extended to Telugu, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi languages. Malayalam cinema was included in the awards in 1967 and Kannada cinema followed in 1970.

The Tamil Filmfare Best Female Playback Award is given by Filmfare magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Tamil films. The first Tamil award was given in 2006. However, since 1997 till 2005, a common award for playback was available for both male and female singers of all the four South Indian languages.

Ponniyin Selvan: I is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language epic action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam, who co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, it is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan. The film stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, R. Parthiban, Rahman, Lal and Vikram Prabhu. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman, with cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Thota Tharani. Ponniyin Selvan: I dramatises the early life of Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I (947–1014). In the film, Vandiyathevan sets out to cross the Chola land to deliver a message from the crown prince Aditha Karikalan. Meanwhile, Kundavai attempts to establish political peace as vassals and petty chieftains plot against the throne.
Chaithra J Achar, also known as Chaithra Achar, is an Indian actress and singer of Kannada cinema. She was born in Bangalore. She made her acting debut in the Kannada film Mahira (2019). For her performance in Taledanda, Chaithra won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada.
Dheekshith Shetty is an Indian film and television actor who predominantly works in Kannada and Telugu films. He is widely known for Dia (2020), Dasara (2023) and Blink (2024), and the television show Naagini. Shetty won the SIIMA Award for Best Supporting Actor – Telugu for his performance in Dasara (2023).

Daredevil Musthafa Mattu Ramanuja Iyengari Patalam is a 2023 Indian Kannada-language comedy-drama film directed by debutant Shashank Soghal. The film is based on Poornachandra Tejaswi's short story of the same name from Abachoorina Post Office. It was produced by more than 100 fans of writer Tejaswi. The film stars an ensemble cast of Shishir Baikady, Aditya Ashree, Abhay, Supreeth Bharadwaj, Aashith, Srivatsa, Prerana, M. S. Umesh, Mandya Ramesh, Mysore Anand, Sunder Veena, Harini Srikanth, Nagabhushana, Poornachandra Mysuru, Vijay Shobhraj, Chaithra Shetty, Karthik Pattar, Krishnegowda and Mahadeva Prasad.
Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A (stylized as Sapta Saagaradaache Ello (Side A); transl. "Somewhere Beyond the Seven Seas (Side A)") is a 2023 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film directed by Hemanth M. Rao and produced by Rakshit Shetty. It stars Rakshit Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth in the lead roles. The music was composed by Charan Raj, while the cinematography was handled by Advaitha Gurumurthy and editing by Sunil S. Bharadwaj and Hemanth M. Rao.

The 3rd IIFA Utsavam is an awards event that took place at the Etihad Arena, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 27 September 2024. Rana Daggubati and Teja Sajja have hosted the Telugu segment. Pearle Maaney and Sudev Nair have hosted the Malayalam segment. Akul Balaji and Vijay Raghavendra have hosted the Kannada segment. Sathish and Divya Menon were later announced as the hosts for the Tamil segment. The nominations were announced on 21 August 2024.
