Rohini Molleti, known professionally as Rohini, is an Indian actress, screenwriter, dubbing artist and lyricist. [1] She has mainly acted in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films along with few Kannada films. Having started her acting career at five, she has about films to her credit. [2] She received National Film Award – Special Mention and Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Special Jury Award for Best Performance as Rangi in the 1995 film Stri . [3]

Early life

A native of Anakapalli in Andhra Pradesh, Rohini spent all her childhood in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. [4] Her father, Appa Rao Naidu, was a panchayat officer and her mother, Radha, was a housewife. [5] Her father always wanted to become an actor, though he could not be an actor owing to various reasons; he encouraged Rohini to become an actress.

Personal life

Rohini married actor Raghuvaran in 1996 but divorced in 2004. They have one son. [5] [6]

Career

She started her career in 1974 as a child actress. She was first seen as a wide-eyed five-year old in Yasodha Krishna (1975), a Telugu film. She is also a popular dubbing artist in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. She has voiced six characters in five of Mani Ratnam's films. [7] She lent her voice to actresses like Jyothika ( Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu ), Aishwarya Rai ( Iruvar and Raavanan ), [4] Manisha Koirala ( Bombay ) [1] and Amala ( Siva ). [7] She has also dubbed for Girija Shettar in Geethanjali (1989).

She wrote lyrics for the Tamil film Pachaikili Muthucharam , before ending another hiatus by writing all songs in the album, Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey .[ citation needed ]

She writes episodes for Tamil TV serials. [4] She started writing scripts for TV series way back in 1996, and has adapted the Sahithya Academy Award winning novel Verukku Neer for a tele film in 2005.[ citation needed ] She hosted the live TV talk show Kelvigal Aayiram for Vijay TV, which she said "dealt with issues close to my heart". [7] She moderated the Tamil programme Azhagiya Tamizh Magal on Kalaignar TV [8] and has worked as the anchor of Raj TV's show, Rohini's Box Office in which she reviewed the latest releases. [9]

Being an activist for AIDS awareness, Rohini has also directed short films for M.G.R. Medical University and Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society.[ citation needed ] In 2008, Rohini had directed a 50-minute documentary Silent Hues about film industry's Child actress, she being one herself. [10] In 2013, she has directed a feature film Appavin Meesai which is yet to be released.[ citation needed ]

<i>Perazhagan</i> 2004 Indian film

Perazhagan is a 2004 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film directed by Sasi Shanker and produced by AVM Productions. It is a remake of the director's 2002 Malayalam film Kunjikoonan. The film stars Suriya and Jyothika, each in dual roles, while Vivek, Manorama, Bobby, Thalaivaasal Vijay, and Devan play supporting roles. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja with cinematography by R. Rathnavelu and editing by Anthony. The film released on 7 May 2004. For his performance, Suriya won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil and Jyothika won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress.

M. M. Manasi is an Indian playback singer trained in Hindustani vocals and also dubbing artist. She has sung more than 170 songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English. Her hits in Tamil are "Stylish Thamizachi" in Aarambam, "Kattikeda" in Kaaki Sattai, "Semma Mass" in Massu, "Robo Romeo" in Tamizhuku En Ondrai Azhuthavum, "Sottavaala" in Puli, "Aatakari Maman Ponnu" in Ilayaraja's 1000th film Tharai Thappattai and "Ranjithame" in Varisu.

Parvathi Satheesan is an Indian actress who appears mainly in Malayalam films.

Gautami Tadimalla is an Indian actor, costume designer, and producer who works mainly in Tamil and Telugu films. She has also acted in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films. She is an acclaimed costume designer and won the 2008 Vijay Award for Best Costume Designer for her work on the Tamil movie Dasavatharam.
