Andre Anura Anuar (born 12 June 1999) is a Malaysian athlete. [3]

Early life and background

Andre was born on 12 Jun 1999 in Tenom, Sabah, Malaysia. He attended the Malaysian Sports School in Sepanggar. [4]

Athletics career

He started his career at the ages of 16 in 2015 ASEAN School Games when he won the gold medal in Long jump.

2019

Andre stole the focus after breaking Josbert Tinus's 12-year long jump record with a jump of 8.02 metres (m) to win a silver medal in 2019 Southeast Asian Games. The record, which saw Andre delete a previous record of 7.88m by Josbert Tinus at the Thai CDI Bangkok Open Championship in October 2007. [5]

2022

Representing Malaysia, Andre won the gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam on 17 May 2022 with a mark 16.21 m. [6]

2023

In May 2023, Andre competed in the 2023 SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He won the gold medal in the triple jump event . [7]

Adhemar Ferreira da Silva was a Brazilian triple jumper. He won two Olympic gold medals and set four world records, the last being 16.56 metres in 1955 Pan American Games. In his early career he also competed in the long jump, placing fourth at the 1951 Pan American Games. He broke world records in triple jump on five occasions during his illustrious career. To date, he remains the only track and field athlete from South America to have won two Olympic gold medals.

The athletics competition at the 2011 SEA Games was held from 12 to 16 November at the Jakabaring Athletic Stadium in Jakabaring Sport City, Palembang, Indonesia. Over the five-day competition a total of 46 events were contested with 23 contests for each gender, matching the Olympic athletics program minus the men's 50 km race walk. At the 2001 SEA Games, the athletics events were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 46 events were contested, of which 24 by male and 22 by female athletes. The track and field events were hosted at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, the marathons were held around Merdeka Square, and the racewalking events took place at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens.

Athletics competitions at the 2015 SEA Games were held at the National Stadium, East Coast Park and Kallang Practice Track in Singapore from 6 to 12 June. A total of 46 athletics events are featured at the 28th SEA Games, divided evenly between the sexes. The marathon started and finished in the stadium and had a route in the surrounding area including the East Coast Park, Marina Bay and the Gardens by the Bay.
