The Team was targeting a suspect in the apartment a floor above Jones' on May 16,2010. Her death drew national media attention and led U.S. Representative John Conyers to ask U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for a federal investigation into the incident.
The murder of Renisha McBride,a 19-year-old African American teenager,occurred on November 2,2013,in Dearborn Heights,Michigan,United States. Renisha McBride crashed her car while intoxicated at a street in Detroit,and then walked to a neighborhood in Dearborn Heights where she knocked on the door of a house. The homeowner,54 year old Theodore Wafer,shot McBride with a shotgun. Wafer contended that the shooting was accidental and that he thought his home was being broken into after he heard her banging on his door at 4:42 in the morning.
James Matthew Boyd was an American man who was fatally shot by Albuquerque Police Department officers Keith Sandy and Dominique Perez in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque,New Mexico on the evening of March 16,2014. A resident of a nearby subdivision called police at 3:28 p.m. to report that a man had been camping on the mountain behind his house for the previous month,a violation of local regulations. Two Open Space officers were the first to respond. They approached Boyd as he lay under a sheet of plastic;Boyd,mentally ill with a diagnosis of schizo-affective disorder,became irate,wanting to know why the "raid" was occurring. When an officer tried to pat him down,he produced two pocket knives,threatening the officers with them. The caller watched the confrontation from his second-story window and later testified that Boyd threatened the officers.
Marilyn Mosby is an American politician,and lawyer who served as the State's Attorney for Baltimore from 2015 to 2023. She had gained national attention following the killing of Freddie Gray in 2015,after which she led an investigation into the officers who arrested Gray.
On August 28,2017,a mass shooting occurred at the Clovis-Carver Library,a public library in downtown Clovis,New Mexico,U.S. The gunman fatally shot two people and injured four others. He was identified as Nathaniel Jouett,a 16-year-old student at nearby Clovis High School.
On October 10,2012,at the Mexico–United States border near Nogales,Arizona,U.S. Border Patrol agent Lonnie Swartz fired 16 shots at teenager JoséAntonio Elena Rodríguez,killing him,on the grounds that young men threw rocks at him and other law enforcement agents.
Birgit Fladager is the former District Attorney of Stanislaus County,California. She was elected in June,2006 and re-elected in 2010 and 2014. In each of those years,she got more than 50% of the vote in the primary election. She did not achieve this in 2018 and so ran against Deputy District Attorney John R. Mayne in the general election. She won that election and continued to be in office as of 2020.
On the night of September 6,2018,26-year-old accountant Botham Jean was murdered in Dallas,Texas by off-duty Dallas Police Department patrol officer Amber Guyger,who entered Jean's apartment and fatally shot him. Guyger,who said that she had entered Jean's apartment believing it was her own and believed Jean to be a burglar,was initially charged with manslaughter. The absence of a murder charge led to protests and accusations of racial bias because Jean—an unarmed black man—was killed in his own home by a white off-duty officer who had apparently disregarded police protocols. On November 30,2018,Guyger was indicted on a charge of murder. On October 1,2019,she was found guilty of murder,and was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment the following day. The ruling was upheld on appeal in 2021.

On April 11,2021,Daunte Wright,a 20-year-old black American man,was fatally shot in Brooklyn Center,Minnesota,by police officer Kimberly Potter during a traffic stop and attempted arrest for an outstanding warrant. After a brief struggle with officers,Potter shot Wright in the chest once at close range. Wright then drove off a short distance until his vehicle collided with another and hit a concrete barrier. An officer administered CPR to Wright;paramedics were unable to revive him,and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Potter said she meant to use her service Taser,shouting "Taser! Taser! Taser!" just before firing her service pistol instead.

On October 21,2021,during production on the set of the film Rust,she was accidentally shot and killed by a bullet from a prop gun discharged by actor Alec Baldwin that was not properly checked.
On October 21,2021,at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Bonanza City,New Mexico,cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot and director Joel Souza was injured on the set of the film Rust when a live round was discharged from a revolver used as a prop by actor Alec Baldwin.
On November 30,2021,a mass shooting occurred at Oxford High School in the Detroit exurb of Oxford Township,Michigan,United States. Ethan Robert Crumbley,age 15,armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun,murdered four students and injured seven people,including a teacher. Authorities arrested and charged Crumbley as an adult for 24 crimes,including murder and terrorism. Crumbley pleaded guilty to all of the charges in October 2022. On December 8,2023,Crumbley was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole plus an additional 24 years.
