Norman Hackerman was an American chemist,professor,and academic administrator who served as the 18th President of the University of Texas at Austin (1967–1970) and later as the 4th President of Rice University (1970–1985). He was an internationally known expert in metal corrosion.

Sir John Antony Hood is a New Zealand businessman and administrator. He was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford from 5 October 2004 until 30 September 2009. He was the first Vice-Chancellor to be elected from outside Oxford's academic body in 900 years,and the first to have addressed the scholars' congregation via a webcast. In March 2007 New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark awarded him the World Class New Zealand supreme award to honour his contribution to profiling New Zealand and New Zealanders internationally. On 15 November 2007 he announced that he would not seek an extension to his five-year term as Vice Chancellor,and that he would leave Oxford in September 2009.

Herbert Holden Thorp is an American chemist,professor and entrepreneur. He is a professor of chemistry at George Washington University. He was the tenth chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,assuming the position on July 1,2008,succeeding James Moeser,and,at age 43,was noted as being among the youngest leaders of a university in the United States. At the time of his selection as chancellor,Thorp was the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and a Kenan Professor of chemistry at the university.

Farrar served as professor of chemistry and an academic administrator at the University of Toronto from 1981 to 2007 and the University of British Columbia from 2007 to 2017. From 1 July to 14 August 2016,Farrar briefly served as the interim president of University of British Columbia.
