NLC India Limited (NLC) is a 'Navratna' government of India company in the fossil fuel mining sector in India and thermal power generation. It annually produces about 30 million tonnes of Lignite from opencast mines at Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India and at Barsingsar in Bikaner district of Rajasthan state. The lignite is used at pithead thermal power stations of 3640 MW installed capacity to produce electricity. Its joint venture has a 1000 MW thermal power station using coal. Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant is a coal-fired power plant located in the outskirts of Visakhapatnam city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The power plant is one of the coal fired power plants of NTPC, a Government of India enterprise. The coal for the power plant is sourced from Kalinga Block of Talcher Coal fields in Odisha. The plant is a national asset, and power generated is shared between multiple states, as the operator is national. Neyveli Thermal Power Station is a set of power plant situated near lignite mines of Neyveli. It consists of two distinct units capable of producing 1020 MW and 1,970 MW respectively including their expansion units. It is operated by NLC. The total installed capacity of this station is 2990 MW as of December 2014.
Kanti Thermal Power Station also known as George Fernandes Thermal Power Plant Station is located in Kanti, Muzaffarpur, 90 km from Patna, the capital of the Indian state of Bihar. It is wholly owned subsidiary company of NTPC. The share of the company is 100% of the NTPC. The plant was not functional between 2003 and 2013; however, renovation of both older units paved the way for commercial production of electricity by the end of 2013.

Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station at Darlipali village in Sundargarh district in Indian state of Odisha. The power plant is one of the coal based power plants of NTPC Limited. Coal will be obtained from Dulanga and Pakri Barwadih Coal Block and water supply will be sourced from the Hirakund Reservoir on the Mahanadi River through a pipeline at over a distance of about 30.0 km from project site. Plant is under construction by Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), L&T Power.
The Nabinagar Thermal Power Station Project (NTPS) of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited is a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Indian Railways to install a 4X 250 MW thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district, Bihar, India. The equity portions of NTPC and Indian Railways will be 74 per cent and 26 per cent respectively. Nearly 90 per cent of the electricity generated from the plant is supplied to the railways to meet nationwide requirements and remaining 10 per cent is given to Bihar.
