Anthony Peter Barill was an American politician from the state of West Virginia. A member of the Democratic Party, Barill was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2010 to 2014, representing the 51st district.
Barill was born and raised in Star City, West Virginia. He served as the Magistrate of Monongalia County, West Virginia, from 1980 through 1997. [1] From 1997 through 2001, Barill was the County Sheriff. He was first elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2010. [2]
In January 2014, Barill was struck by a bullet in his ankle when his son, Brad, committed suicide by firearm. [1]
Barill died in September 2024, his cause of death not reported. [3]

Colonel Zackquill Morgan was the son of Welsh-born Colonel Morgan Morgan and Catherine Garretson, the first known white settlers in what would become the U.S. state of West Virginia. He was born in Orange [now Berkeley] County, [West] Virginia, in 1735. Zackquill Morgan founded Morgantown, West Virginia in Monongalia County, where he died at sixty years old on New Year's Day in 1795 and was buried in the cemetery at Prickett's Fort. The grave was "marked by rough native sandstone slab, on which was crudely chiseled the simple lettering, Z. M. Jan. 1, 1795."
Waitman Thomas Willey was an American lawyer and politician from Morgantown, West Virginia. One of the founders of the state of West Virginia during the American Civil War, he served in the United States Senate representing first the Restored Government of Virginia and became one of the new state of West Virginia's first two senators. He is one of only two people in U.S. History to represent more than one state in the U.S. Senate, the other being James Shields.

The West Virginia Mountaineers baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of West Virginia University, located in Morgantown, West Virginia, United States. The program has been a member of the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference since the start of the 2013 season. The program currently plays at Monongalia County Ballpark in the adjacent city of Granville. Steve Sabins has been the team's head coach since prior to the 2025 season. As of the end of the 2024 season, the program has appeared in 15 NCAA tournaments. It has won five conference tournament championships and 16 regular season conference and division titles.
Skylar Annette Neese was an American teenage girl who disappeared from her home in Star City, West Virginia, around midnight on July 6, 2012. Neese's body was found in January 2013, across the nearby state line, in Wayne Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.
