Antoine Conte (born 29 January 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv. [1] Born in France, he represents the Guinea national team.

Contents

Club career

Conte made his debut in the Ligue 1 on 1 February 2013 against Toulouse replacing Mamadou Sakho after 76 minutes. [2]

On 31 January 2017, Conte joined Beitar Jerusalem on loan until the end of the season with an option given to Beitar Jerusalem to sign him permanently. [3]

On 15 June 2017, signed permanently with Beitar agreeing to a three-year contract. [4]

In February 2021, after being sentenced to a one-year prison sentence by the court in France, Beitar released Conte. [5]

International career

Born in France, Conte is Guinean by descent. [6] He has represented France at numerous youth levels all the way up to under-21 level. He debuted with the Guinea national team in a friendly 0–0 tie with South Africa on 25 March 2022. [7]

On 23 December 2023, he was selected from the list of 25 Guinean players selected by Kaba Diawara to compete in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. [8]

Personal life

On 8 December 2016, Conte was held by French Police for assaulting his girlfriend and attacking a 19-year-old man, who tried to help, with a baseball bat, inflicting leg, arm and head injuries, including a brain haemorrhage. [9] In January 2021, he was sentenced to three years of prison. [10] In May he filed an appeal for the reduction of his sentence. [11]

The 2017–18 season is Beitar Jerusalem 81st season since its establishment in 1936, and 70th since the establishment of the State of Israel. During the 2017–18 campaign the club have competed in the Israeli Premier League, State Cup, Toto Cup, UEFA Europa League. In the end of the previous season the association of Israeli football decide that The owner Tabib can't manage the team for 2 years, because his involvement in criminal case. In 28 May the owner Eli Tabib announced the joining of the biggest legend of Beitar Eli Ohana to the chairman. Within the preparations of the season, Beitar signed the players: Georginho, Amir Agayev, Zion Tzemah, Miki Siroshtein, Gaëtan Varenne, Or Va'aknin, and one of the successful Israeli players of all times, Yossi Benayoun.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jerusalem derby</span>

The Jerusalem derby refers to football matches between Jerusalem-based teams Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Jerusalem. The teams have met on 70 separate occasions, 58 of which were in the league, 6 in the State Cup, two in the Toto Cup and one Exhibition game in 1969 that Hapoel win. Beitar Jerusalem has been the more dominant side in the derby, with 32 wins, while Hapoel Jerusalem won 16 times.
