Arjun Chakrabarty [1] is an Indian Bengali film and television actor best known for his portrayal of the character Gora in the Bengali musical television series Gaaner Oparey that aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011. [2] Chakrabarty is also known for acting in the Bengali drama-romance-comedy television series Jamai Raja (2017–2018), where he played the lead role Ishan Chatterjee. [3] He hails from a family which has had a legacy of association with the Bengali cultural arena, starting from Jochhon Dastidar and Chandra Dastidar (his paternal great uncle and aunt), Bijon Bhattacharya (his paternal great uncle), Jagdish Chandra Chakrabarty and Monika Chakrabarty (his paternal grandparents) and his parents Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Mithu Chakrabarty. He debuted on the big screen Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha's Bapi Bari Jaa in 2012.
Calcutta Times voted him as one of the 10 Most Desirable Men in 2015. [4]
Chakrabarty had his schooling at the Assembly of God Church School in Kolkata. He subsequently earned a degree in Mass Communication and Videography from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata.
Arjun was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India on 5 March 1990. [5] He was raised in Kolkata. His brother is actor Gaurav Chakrabarty. He married his long-term girlfriend, Sreeja Sen, on 10 March 2016. [6] However Sreeja is engaged to Arjun on 6 June 2017. The couple's daughter Avantika was born on 15 February 2018. [7]
Arjun debuted on television, along with his elder brother Gaurav Chakrabarty, in the Star Jalsha megaserial Gaaner Oparey . [8] [9] Chakrabarty's character Gora was the official male lead. His acting as Gora was well-received by audience and appreciated by critics. He gained popularity through this character. However Chakrabarty began his journey in the entertainment world at a young age, working as a child actor Satyajiter Priyo Golpo on DD Bangla in 2000.
Arjun made his silver screen debut with the film Bapi Bari Jaa , a romantic-comedy directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha that released in December 2012.
Chakrabarty was back on television through Jamai Raja on Zee Bangla in 2017. [10] His character Ishan Chatterjee was hugely popular among audience due to his portrayal. [11]

Gaaner Oparey is an Indian Bengali television serial which aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011. This TV musical marked the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of the great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore. The concept was a brainchild of the Indian director Rituparno Ghosh. The songs were all popular Rabindra sangeets. Prosenjit Chatterjee launched an audio CD of its tracks on Mahalaya on 12 October 2015. On account of Rabindranath Tagore's 157th birthday, Star Jalsha added Gaaner Oparey on Disney+ Hotstar on 9 May 2018. It was re-aired on Star Jalsha during the 2020 lockdown period, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
