The Prolecithophora are an order consisting of an estimated 300 species of small, active, aquatic flatworms. The order lacks a common English name. Most species are shaped like an elongated, stylized droplet, and are opaque white or yellow; they frequently have contrasting bands or spots in colors, such as purple, yellow, red, or brown. They have no to three pairs of pigment-cup eyes, and well-developed tactile and chemoreceptor senses. With few exceptions, species are protandric hermaphrodites with internal fertilization. Egg capsules are, according to species, glued to various hard surfaces; the young hatch as miniature copies of their parents.
Mesonerilla is a genus of polychaetes in the Nerillidae family. It contains the following species:
Parhippolyte sterreri is a species of marine decapod crustacean in the family Barbouriidae, formerly placed in the genus Somersiella. It is found in marine caves around the Bahamas, Cuba and Mexico and inland anchialine caves in Bermuda.
Hesperotestudo is an extinct genus of tortoise native to North and Central America from the Early Miocene to the Late Pleistocene. Species of Hesperotestudo varied widely in size, with a large undescribed specimen from the Late Pleistocene of El Salvador reaching
Nemertodermatida is a class of Acoelomorpha, comprising 18 species of millimetre-sized turbellariform, mostly interstitial worms.
Harrimaniidae is a basal family of acorn worms. A taxonomic revision was undertaken in 2010, and a number of new genera and species found in the Eastern Pacific were described. In this family the development is direct without tornaria larva, and circular muscle fibers in their trunk is missing. There is some indication that Stereobalanus may be a separate basal acorn worm lineage, sister to all remaining acorn worms.
Nemertodermatidae is a family of wormlike animals in the phylum Acoelomorpha. They are similar to the flatworms of the phylum Platyhelminthes, and were traditionally classified as such.
Millepora alcicornis, or sea ginger, is a species of colonial fire coral with a calcareous skeleton. It is found on shallow water coral reefs in the tropical west Atlantic Ocean. It shows a variety of different morphologies depending on its location. It feeds on plankton and derives part of its energy requirements from microalgae found within its tissues. It is an important member of the reef building community and subject to the same threats as other corals. It can cause painful stings to unwary divers.
Meioglossus psammophilus is a species of acorn worm in the family Harrimaniidae, the only known species of the genus Meigolossus. It inhabits the Western Caribbean and Bermuda. The name of the species derives from two Greek words; psammon and philos which in translation means friend of the sands in reference to adult stage of species' lifestyle. The length of the species is 0.6 millimetres (0.024 in). It is able to reproduce asexually through paratomy.
Amaga is a genus of land planarians from South America.
Bursovaginoidea is one of the two orders in the phylum Gnathostomulida.
Filospermoidea is an order within the phylum Gnathostomulida. Filospermoids are generally longer than gnathostomulids in the order Bursovaginoidea, and have an elongate rostrum. It lives in North America, off the coasts of the southern United States and the Caribbean, primarily in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as in southeastern Denmark.
Ascoparia is a genus of worms belonging to the family Ascopariidae.
Problognathia is a monotypic genus of worms belonging to the monotypic family Problognathiidae. The only species is Problognathia minima, also known as the problematic jaw worm.
Paucidentula is a monotypic genus of worms belonging to the monotypic family Paucidentulidae. The only species is Paucidentula anonyma.
Haplognathia is a genus of worms belonging to the family Haplognathiidae.
Cosmognathia is a genus of worms belonging to the family Pterognathiidae.
Pterognathia is a genus of worms belonging to the family Pterognathiidae.
Onychognathiidae is a family of worms belonging to the order Bursovaginoidea.
