Athy Rugby Football Club is a community-based rugby club fielding three senior men's teams, a senior ladies' team and underage teams from U7 to U19. Athy RFC was founded in 1880 and plays its home games at The Showgrounds, Athy, County Kildare. The club plays in Division 1B of the Leinster League.

Athy is a market town at the meeting of the River Barrow and the Grand Canal in south-west County Kildare, Ireland, 72 kilometres southwest of Dublin. A population of 9,677 makes it the sixth largest town in Kildare and the 50th largest in the Republic of Ireland, with a growth rate of approximately 60 per cent since the 2002 census.

Eric Miller is a former Irish rugby union and Gaelic football player. As a rugby player Miller played for, among others Old Wesley, Leicester Tigers, Ulster, Leinster, the Barbarians, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions. After retiring as a rugby player, Miller switched football codes and went on to play Gaelic football for the Dublin county team.

Bobby Miller was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for Laois and Timahoe. In June 2006, Miller was managing the Arles-Killeen side from Laois that included Laois county stars Beano McDonald and Donal Brennan when he became ill on the sideline shortly before half time. Medics did what they could on the pitch itself and he was then taken to Portlaoise Midland Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. He was 56 years of age.

The club was founded in October 1873, and is one of the oldest rugby clubs in Ireland. As was usual in the days preceding the development of Gaelic football and soccer and prior to the foundation of the Rugby Football Union, the earlier clubs were known simply as "football clubs" with no mention of rugby in the title. The County Carlow club was formed, therefore, as "County Carlow Football Club."
Robert Kearney is an Irish rugby union former player. He played for 15 years for Leinster followed by a 6 month stint in Australia, playing for Perth based side Western Force. He also played over a decade for the Ireland national rugby union team with whom he earned 95 caps, and went on two British & Irish Lions tours in 2009 and 2013. As a youth he also played rugby union for Clongowes Wood College and Gaelic football for Louth in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship.

Balbriggan RFC is an Irish rugby team based at Bowhill, Balrothery just outside of Balbriggan town. They are a junior club and are currently playing in Division 2A of the Leinster League. The club colours are green and white. The club's women's team is currently in the Leinster League Division 2 The current president is Caroline McFadden 2019-2021 and the vice president is Leigh O'Toole 2019-2021. The club also has youths boys and girls teams as well as men's, women's, minis and special needs teams. In 2020 the club finally opened the long anticipated clubhouse. George Thomas Hamlet was a former president of the club who was also president of the IRFU and played rugby for Ireland on 29 occasions. In 1928 Balbriggan won the Leinster Towns Cup defeating Athy.
