Balgray railway station is a proposed railway station that will serve communities to the south of Barrhead (particularly Springhill and Auchenback) on the Neilston branch of the Cathcart Circle Lines. [1] The name of the proposed new station was chosen as the station will be located next to Balgray Reservoir, part of the Dams to Darnley Country Park.
A plan to open this station was announced by Network Rail on 23 November 2023 with construction expecting to commence in 2024. [1] Funding for the station will come from the Glasgow City Region City Deal, and delivered in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council.
A planned railway station, Lyoncross railway station, was partially built on the line close to the location but never opened to the public. The intended location of the station can be discerned by the widening of the tracks just east of Aurs Road between Newton Mearns and Barrhead.
Another disused station, Barrhead South railway station on the Paisley and Barrhead District Railway was also located nearby.

Barrhead is a town in East Renfrewshire, Scotland, thirteen kilometres (8 mi) southwest of Glasgow city centre on the edge of the Gleniffer Braes. At the 2011 census its population was 17,268.
The Cathcart Circle Lines form a mostly suburban railway route linking Glasgow (Central) to Cathcart via a circular line, with branches to Newton and Neilston, on the south bank of the River Clyde. They are part of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport network.

Parkhouse is a residential neighbourhood of Glasgow, Scotland close to the border with East Renfrewshire. It is located on the south-western edge of the city, close to the towns of Barrhead and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire. Within the G53 postcode area and the Greater Pollok ward of the Glasgow City Council administration, the eastern cluster of private housing was constructed in the 1980s and the western part in the 2010s, prior to which it was open farmland annexed to Glasgow in 1938.
Dams to Darnley Country Park is a 1350 acre country park in East Renfrewshire and Glasgow, in Scotland comprising the historic greenspace between the towns of Barrhead and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire, and the areas of Darnley, Parkhouse and Southpark Village in south Glasgow. Being designated since 2000, it is one of the newest country parks in Scotland.
