Federation Cup, also known as Bangladesh Federation Cup, is Bangladesh's premier cup competition in men's association football. The competition started in 1980 and is run by the Bangladesh Football Federation which is responsible for all types of competitive matches in the country. The teams from the country's premier league and other clubs compete in the tournament while occasionally Indian sides were invited in the past. Most of the matches are played in the country's main football venue Bangabandhu National Stadium. The winner of the tournament earn the slot of playing qualifying round of AFC Cup.

Format

A total of 13 teams participate in the final round. Teams are split into 4 groups. Two teams from each group qualify for the knockout rounds. [1]

The clubs that were winners and runners-up of the previous tournaments are listed. [2] [3] In 1990, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2014 no competitions were held.

The Bangladesh national football team is the national recognised football team of Bangladesh and is controlled by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). It is a member of the Asian Football Confederation, and became a member of FIFA in 1974. Even though the Bangladesh Football Federation was first founded in 1972. Brothers Union is a football club based in Gopibag, Dhaka. The club was founded in 1949 and the regal business tycoon Kazi Ghiyasuddin Ahmed, better known as K. G. Ahmed served as the founder chairman of the club. At the beginning it was a well-known cultural organization. In 1973, the club started their football activities. They played 3rd Division Football League in 1973 and in 1974 and promoted to 2nd Division in 1975. Brothers also won the title in the same year and as a result this club promoted to 1st Division. Brothers won their first major title in the year 2004. Now they are playing in the top professional football league of Bangladesh which is called Bangladesh Premier League.

Kazi Md. Salahuddin is a Bangladeshi former football player. He was a member of the Shadhin Bangla Football Team, the team which played across India to raise funds during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Salahuddin is the first professional football player from the country to play abroad in the professional league in Hong Kong and considered to be one of Bangladesh's most famous football players. He was a member of the Bangladesh national football team, retiring in 1983.

Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Chunnu played for the Bangladesh national football team for 10 years between 1975 and 1985. The left-winger represented Bangladesh in 50 international matches in which he scored 17 official goals during his 10-year long national career.

The 2019–20 Federation Cup, also known as 2019–20 TVS Federation Cup, was 31st edition of the tournament, the main domestic annual club football competition in Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Football Federation. The 13 participants will compete for the tournament. The winner of the tournament will earn the slot of playing preliminary round of 2021 AFC Cup.

The Bangladesh Women's Football League is the top division women's club football competition of Bangladesh established 2011.The league hosted and run by Bangladesh Football Federation.

The 2019–20 season was the Chittagong Abahani's 40th season since its establishment in 1980 and their 10th season in the Bangladesh Premier League. This also remarked their sixth consecutive season in the top flight after getting promoted in 2014. In this season, Chittagong Abahani participated in Bangladesh Federation Cup & Bangladesh Premier League.

The 2020-21 Federation Cup is the 32nd edition of the tournament, the main domestic annual club football competition in Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Football Federation. The 13 participants is competing in the tournament. The tournament has started on 22 December 2020.
