Barbara J. Fiala is the former Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and County Executive of Broome County,New York. [1] Fiala also served as Broome County Clerk from 1999 to 2004. [1] She was the first female County Executive of Broome County and served as President of the New York State Association of County Executives. [2] On July 30,2015,Fiala officially announced her candidacy for the New York State Senate's 52nd district. The seat became vacant after then-Senator Thomas W. Libous was convicted of a Federal felony of lying to the FBI. [1] Fiala was defeated in the November election by Fred Akshar,the Republican nominee. [3]
Fiala served as Broome County Executive from 2005 until 2010,when she was appointed Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. [4] She was elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. [4] During her tenure as County Executive,the Greater Binghamton Transportation Center was developed,the George Harvey Justice Building was refurbished,and a number of small business development programs were launched. [1] Fiala touts bipartisan cooperation as the reason for her accomplishments as County Executive. [1]
Fiala was appointed Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in 2011,and served until the end of 2014. [5] During her tenure,the state placed a higher priority on online services. The DMV website was redesigned and many motor vehicle transactions were added to the website. [5] Additionally,the DMV launched lifetime adventure licenses for hunting,fishing,skiing,and boating. [6] The adventure license offered New York residents a chance to list all adventure licenses on their drivers license,and the adventure licenses do not expire. [6]
Upon the conviction of former New York State Senator Thomas W. Libous,Fiala announced her candidacy for the vacated senate seat. She launched her campaign for the November 2015 special election in July promising to bring jobs to the Southern Tier. Fiala said,"The one major issue here in the Southern Tier is jobs,good-paying jobs." [1]
In November 2015 Fiala was defeated in the State Senate election by Republican Fred Akshar. [3]

The Lieutenant Governor of New York is a constitutional office in the executive branch of the Government of the State of New York. It is the second highest-ranking official in state government. The lieutenant governor is elected on a ticket with the governor for a four-year term. Official duties dictated to the lieutenant governor under the present New York Constitution are to serve as president of the state senate,serve as acting governor in the absence of the governor from the state or the disability of the governor,or to become governor in the event of the governor's death,resignation or removal from office via impeachment. Additional statutory duties of the lieutenant governor are to serve on the New York Court for the Trial of Impeachments,the State Defense Council,and on the board of trustees of the College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The lieutenant governor of New York is the highest-paid lieutenant governor in the country.

Eliot Spitzer on Dec. 21,2006 and took office on Jan. 1,2007,when the Spitzer Administration took office. He continued in the Paterson Administration after Gov. Spitzer resigned from office amid a sex scandal on March 17,2008.

Andrea Alice Stewart-Cousins is an American politician and educator from Yonkers,New York. A member of the Democratic Party,Stewart-Cousins has represented District 35 in the New York State Senate since 2007 and has served as Majority Leader and Temporary President of that body since 2019. She also served as acting lieutenant governor of New York under Governor Kathy Hochul for 16 days in 2021. Stewart-Cousins was the first Black woman to serve as the New York lieutenant governor. She is the first woman in the history of New York State to lead a conference in the New York State Legislature and is also the first female Senate Majority Leader in New York history.
On September 21,2007,Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer issued an executive order directing that state offices allow illegal aliens to be issued driver's licenses effective December 2007. The measure was introduced three times. Once,as an executive order that was later withdrawn,then revamped as a legislative bill,which was defeated in the New York State Senate,and finally introduced as an administrative measure through the Department of Motor Vehicles and withdrawn again after heavy public and political opposition.

David Carlucci is an American politician in Rockland County,New York.
