Barisan Nasional has 30 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat, with 26 from UMNO, 2 from MCA, 1 from MIC and 1 from PBRS.
Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (Malay : Kelab Ahli Penyokong Barisan Nasional; abbrev: BNBBC) is composed of the BN backbencher MPs. The term "backbencher" originates from the British Parliament, denoting an MP who is not a member of the Cabinet or is otherwise part of the government as a Deputy Minister or Parliamentary Secretary. Since the 2022 general election, there have been 30 BN MPs. Six among them have been appointed as members of the Anwar Ibrahim cabinet. Therefore, there are presently 24 BN backbencher MPs. Initially it was not prominent in parliamentary affairs. However, in 2005, it drew attention when its then Chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad publicly called for the restoration of the Parliamentary Services Act (PSA) so that the Parliament could be self-sufficient in conducting its own affairs. The then backbencher MPs supported Shahrir, but little was heard further on after the matter blew over. Then in 2006, Shahrir resigned from his position after not receiving support from the backbenchers in voting for a motion brought by then Leader of the Opposition and MP for Ipoh Timor Lim Kit Siang from the Democratic Action Party (DAP). [1] Then Deputy Chairman Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar was appointed to replace Shahrir as the Acting Chair. After 2008 general election, Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing of the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) took over Raja Ahmad Zainuddin as Chairman while Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin took over as Deputy Chairman. After the 2013 general election, Shahrir was reappointed Chairman for a second term replacing Tiong and Bung Moktar remained the Deputy Chairman. After the 2018 Malaysian general election, the positions of Chairman and Deputy Chairman were vacant for two years. It was most recently chaired by former Prime Minister and former Pekan MP Najib Razak from November 2020 to his disqualification from the position after losing his parliamentary seat upon his admission to the prison in August 2022. Barisan Nasional Parliamentary Council (Malay : Majlis Ahli Parlimen Barisan Nasional; abbrev: BNPC) is composed of Barisan Nasional (BN) Members of Parliament (MPs) responsible for holding the government to account and for developing and disseminating the policy positions of the coalition. It was most recently chaired by Bera MP Ismail Sabri Yaakob from July 2018 to his ministerial appointment in March 2020. [3]

Shahrir bin Abdul Samad is a Malaysian politician who was the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (2008-2009), a Member of Parliament of Malaysia and the former chairman of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC). He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the largest political component party in the former ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. In Parliament – specifically the lower house of Parliament of Malaysia, the Dewan Rakyat – he represented the constituency of Johor Bahru in the state of Johor for six non-consecutive terms..
In the Parliament of Malaysia, the political parties appoint party whips to ensure party discipline, help manage legislative business and carry out a variety of other functions on behalf of the party leadership. The most important function of a government party whip is to ensure that sufficient number of members and senators are present to take part in voting in the chamber, to maintain a parliamentary quorum and to prevent censure motions succeeding. Their roles in the chamber include taking divisions, and arranging pairs which affect the ability of members and senators to leave parliament during sittings, as well as the entitlement to be absent during divisions.
Liow Tiong Lai is a Malaysian politician and nutritionist who served as Minister of Transport, Minister of Health, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak as well as former Minister Azalina Othman Said from February 2006 to May 2018. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bentong from November 1999 to May 2018. In addition, he served as 10th President of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party of the ruling BN coalition, from December 2013 to November 2018.
The 12th Malaysian Parliament is the last meeting of the legislative branch of the government of Malaysia, the Parliament, comprising the directly elected lower house, the Dewan Rakyat, and the appointed upper house, the Dewan Negara. It met for the first time at the Malaysian Houses of Parliament on 28 April 2008 and met for the last time on 29 November 2012. The King then dissolved the Parliament on 3 April 2013. The dissolution was announced by the Prime Minister Najib Razak after it consented by the King.
Dato' Seri Hamzah bin Zainudin is a Malaysian politician who has served as the 17th Leader of the Opposition since December 2022 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Larut since March 2008. He served as the Minister of Home Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021, Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities and Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government in the BN administration under former prime ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak from March 2008 to the collapse of the BN administration in May 2018 as well as a senator from September 2000 to September 2006. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. Tan Sri Noh bin Haji Omar is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who served as the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative for second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from September 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the BN administration under former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi from March 2008 to April 2009, Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government from June 2016 to the collapse of the BN administration in May 2018, Chairman of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) from June 2020 to September 2021. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tanjong Karang from April 1995 to November 2022. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. Datuk Halimah binti Mohamed Sadique is a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister of National Unity for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and her first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to August 2021 as well as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Tinggi from May 2018 to November 2022. She also served as Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government in the BN administration under former Prime Minister Najib Razak and former Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan from May 2013 to July 2015. Shahidan bin Kassim is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Arau from August 1986 to April 1995 and again since May 2013. He served as the Minister of Federal Territories in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, President of the Kuala Lumpur City F.C. from August 2022 to June 2023, Chairman of the Perbadanan Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) from March to November 2021, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in the BN administration under former Prime Minister Najib Razak from May 2013 to May 2018, 7th Menteri Besar of Perlis from May 1995 to March 2008 and Member of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tambun Tulang from April 1995 to May 2013. Ronald Kiandee is a Malaysian politician. A member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) and its Vice President since August 2020 and 2nd State Chairman of Sabah since December 2022, he has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Beluran since November 1999. He served as Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021. He was reappointed to the same post for a second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 until the dissolution of the BN government in November 2022, when BN lost its reelection campaign in the 2022 general election. Prior to serving in the Cabinet, Kiandee was the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration from 2018 to 2019 and Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat I in the BN administration from 2008 to 2018. He is presently the sole MP of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party of Sabah and one of the only two Christian MPs of PN alongside Ali Biju.
Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar bin Radin is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kinabatangan since November 1999 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Lamag since September 2020. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister I, State Minister of Works of Sabah from September 2020 to January 2023, Chairman of FELCRA Berhad from 2013 to 2018 and Deputy Chairman of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) from 2008 to 2018. He is a member and Division Chief of Kinabatangan of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He has also served as the State Chairman of BN and UMNO of Sabah since December 2018. He is a former member of United Sabah National Organisation (USNO).
Fadillah bin Yusof is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia since 2022, Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation since 2023 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Petra Jaya since March 2004. He is the first DPM from Sarawak, one of the Borneo states in Malaysia and the second DPM not from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) after Wan Azizah Wan Ismail from the People's Justice Party (PKR).
Alexander Nanta Linggi is a Malaysian politician. He is Secretary-General of both Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and its coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). He has served as Minister of Works in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim since December 2022. He served as the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and his first term in Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021 as well as the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Najib Razak and former Ministers Shafie Apdal and Ismail Sabri Yaakob from May 2013 to the collapse of the BN administration in May 2018. He has also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kapit since November 1999. He is also the cousin of Wilson Ugak Kumbong, the current Deputy Minister of Digital and MP for Hulu Rajang.

Datuk Jonathan bin Yasin is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ranau since May 2018. He served as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs II for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Hamzah Zainuddin from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Hamzah from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021. He is a direct member of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He joined the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition after resigning from the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. He later resigned from BERSATU but remained in GRS as direct member.
Datuk Willie anak Mongin is a Malaysian politician, software engineer and technopreneur who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Puncak Borneo since May 2018. He served as the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities II for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Khairuddin Razali from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021. He is a member of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), a component party of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition. He was a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. He is Bidayuh from Sarawak.
The Muhyiddin cabinet was formed on 10 March 2020, nine days after Muhyiddin Yassin was appointed as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia and dissolved 17 months and 6 days later on 16 August 2021, the day when Muhyiddin submitted his resignations as PM and of this cabinet. It was the 21st cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. This cabinet was also known as the Perikatan Nasional Cabinet (PN-Cabinet) which combined 15 political parties from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties, with Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties and United Sabah Party (PBS) as allied partners providing confidence and supply.
Mohd Shahar bin Abdullah is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Paya Besar since May 2018 and Chairman of the Government Backbenchers Club since March 2024. He served as the Deputy Minister of Finance I in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the Deputy Minister of Finance II in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Tengku Zafrul from March 2020 to the collapse of BN administration in August 2021. He is a member and the Division Chief of Paya Besar of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the BN coalition.
Muslimin bin Yahaya is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Sungai Besar since May 2018. He served as the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Noh Omar from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and Deputy Minister of Education I in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin from March 2020 to the collapse of PN administration in August 2021. He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and former component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and was a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. After the defeat of BN to PH in 2018 general election, he resigned from UMNO in 2018 and joined BERSATU in 2019. In the 2022 Malaysian General Election, he alongside Muhyiddin Yassin are the only BERSATU MPs in Malaysian history to have been re-elected with the same party despite changing coalitions in the process.
Nik Muhammad Zawawi bin Salleh (Jawi: نئ محمد زواوي بن صالح; is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Pasir Puteh since May 2018. He served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries II in the Barisan Nasional administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Ronald Kiandee from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022, Chairman of the Farmers' Organisation Authority, Deputy Chairman of the Perikatan Nasional Backbenchers Club from 2020 to 2021 and Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly for Kuala Besut from November 1999 to March 2004. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party, a component party of the Perikatan Nasional coalition. He also served as Dewan Ulamak Chief of PAS from July 2019 to 2021.
The Ismail Sabri cabinet was formed following the appointment of Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Prime Minister of Malaysia on 21 August 2021 and dissolved 15 months and 3 days later following the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister on 24 November 2022. It was the 22nd cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. Following the coalition's defeat in the 2018 general election, Barisan Nasional (BN) has formed its first cabinet. This cabinet also has the full support of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), three independent members of the Dewan Rakyat and conditional support of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
