Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup (born 4 August 1982) is a Malaysian politician, lawyer and economist who has served as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Mohamad Sabu since December 2023 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pensiangan since May 2018. He previouly served as the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation prior to the 2023 cabinet reshuffle under Minister Chang Lih Kang from December 2022 to December 2023, Deputy Minister of Works in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Fadillah Yusof from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Economic Affairs in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Mustapa Mohamed from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021. [2] He is a member of the United Sabah People's Party (PBRS), a component party of the BN coalition and has served as the 2nd President of PBRS since January 2023. He is also presently the sole PBRS MP elected in the 2022 General election. Additionally, he is the only president of a party appointed as a deputy minister in Anwar's cabinet. [3] [4] [5] [6]
Arthur previously worked as a Trade and Legal Officer at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland before returning to Malaysia. [7] He served as a Director of Sabah Housing and Development Town Board. [6]
He is the eldest son of the 1st and founding President of PBRS Joseph Kurup. He served as the Deputy President of PBRS from November 2015 to his promotion to party presidency in January 2023 and had served as Vice President and Youth Chief of PBRS in the past. In the 2018 general election, his party of United Sabah People's Party (PBRS) fielded him to contest the Pensiangan parliamentary seat to succeed his father and party president, Joseph Kurup. Pandikar Amin bin Mulia is a Malaysian politician who has served as President of United Sabah National Organisation (New) since February 2021. He served as 8th Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat from April 2008 to April 2018, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department from December 1999 to November 2002, State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Sabah from May 1997 to March 1999, State Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Sabah from March 1994 to May 1997, Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tempasuk from 1994 to 1999 and again from March 2004 to March 2008, Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Usukan from 1982 to 1985 as well as a former cum founding President of the People's Justice Front (AKAR) from 1989 to 1995. He is also the first Sabahan, East Malaysian and also ethnic Bajau Iranun to hold the office of the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.
Shamsul Anuar bin Nasarah is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail since December 2022 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Lenggong since March 2008. He served as the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to his resignation in August 2021. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) party in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He has also served as President of the Malaysian Youth Council. His appointment as a deputy minister in December 2023 is rare in Malaysian politics since he was a former federal minister in the Muhyiddin cabinet back in March 2020. This has rarely happened in the Malaysian politics. He is one of the three deputy ministers who were previously a federal minister alongside M. Kulasegaran and Noraini Ahmad.
Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Kurup was a Malaysian politician who served as the 1st and founding President of the United Sabah People's Party (PBRS), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition from March 1994 to January 2023, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in the BN administration under former Prime Ministers Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak from March 2008 to May 2018. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pensiangan from March 2008 to May 2018. He also served as Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, State Minister of Communications and Works, State Minister of Finance, State Minister of Industrial Development, State Minister of Resource Development and Enterprise and State Minister of Youth and Sports of Sabah under former Chief Ministers Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Sakaran Dandai, Salleh Said Keruak, Yong Teck Lee, Bernard Giluk Dompok, Osu Sukam, Chong Kah Kiat and Musa Aman in the BN state administration from 1985 to 2004. He was a founding member of the PBRS and was a member of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS). He was also the father of Arthur Joseph Kurup, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Pensiangan MP and PBRS President. Kurup died in Kuala Lumpur on 17 April 2024, at the age of 79.

Datuk Jafry bin Ariffin is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sukau since September 2020. Wetrom bin Bahanda is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Marudu since November 2022 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bandau since September 2020. He served as the State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor from October 2020 to his resignation in October 2022. Datuk Haji Nizam Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Abu Bakar Titingan is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor since October 2022 and Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Apas since May 2018. He served as State Assistant Minister of Finance in the GRS state administration under Chief Minister and Minister Hajiji from October 2020 to October 2022. He is a member of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a component party of the GRS coalition. He has also served as the Information Chief and Division Chairman of Apas of GAGASAN since February 2023.
Jasnih bin Daya is a Malaysian politician who has served as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pantai Dalit since September 2020. He served as the State Assistant Minister of Finance of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Ministers Hajiji and Masidi Manjun from October 2020 to January 2023. He is a member of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GAGASAN), a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He was a member of the United Malays National Organisation of Sabah, a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He left Sabah UMNO for GAGASAN on 21 February 2023. He officially become the GAGASAN RAKYAT Divisional Chairperson of Pantai Dalit, Tuaran in 2023.
Hendrus Anding is a Malaysian politician who has served as State Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industries of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Minister Jeffrey Kitingan since October 2020 as well as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Tandek since September 2020. He is a member of the United Sabah Party (PBS), a component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He has also served as the Assistant Secretary-General of PBS from January 2021 until June 2022 and currently serves as the party's Vice President.
Mohamad Hamsan bin Awang Supain is a Malaysian politician who has served as the State Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government of Sabah in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Ministers Masidi Manjun and Joachim Gunsalam since October 2020 as well as Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sungai Sibuga since September 2020. He is an ethnic Bisayan, a sub-ethnic group or tribe of the indigenous Kadazan-Dusun population native to Beaufort and Kuala Penyu districts located in the southern part of Sabah.
Siti Aminah binti Aching is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Beaufort since November 2022. She served as the Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Fadillah Yusof from December 2022 to December 2023. She is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. Siti Aminah was the first Bisaya to join the government as a deputy minister in the history of Malaysia.
The younger Kurup was elected deputy president of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah in 2015, and appointed to the board of directors for the Sabah Town and Housing Development Board in 2016. He is also a trained lawyer and a TN50 ambassador.
Located close to the Kalimantan-Sabah border, the constituency, which was held by Tan Sri Joseph Kurup for two terms, has an almost equal number of ethnic Dusun and Murut voters. The area will test Arthur, who used to be a lawyer with the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, as he enters the complex game of localized family politics.
