Palembang City in South Sumatra, Indonesia

Palembang is the capital city of the Indonesian province of South Sumatra. The city proper covers 400.22 square kilometres of land on both banks of Musi River on the eastern lowland of southern Sumatra. It has an estimated population of 1,834,344 (2019). Palembang is the second most populous city in Sumatra, after Medan, the ninth most populous city in Indonesia, and the nineteenth most populous city in Southeast Asia. The capital of the province is Palembang. The province borders the provinces of Jambi to the north, Bengkulu to the west and Lampung to the south. 2011 Southeast Asian Games

The 2011 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 26th Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. It was Indonesia's fourth time to host the Southeast Asian Games, and its first since 1997. Previously, Indonesia also hosted in 1979 and 1987. The capital city of Jakarta hosted all three of the previous Games prior to this. Palembang became the third SEA Games non-capital host city, after Chiang Mai (1995) and Nakhon Ratchasima (2007), both in Thailand. Around 5,965 athletes from 11 participating nations participated at the games which featured 545 events in 44 sports. The biggest competitor, sports, and events in Southeast Asian Games history.

Sriwijaya Football Club or commonly known as Sriwijaya [sriwiˈdʒaja] or SFC, is a professional football club based in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia, which currently competes in the second tier of Indonesian football, the Liga 2. The club was founded on 23 October 2004 after the South Sumatra government bought Persijatim Solo FC which was based in Surakarta. Their current home stadium is Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium in Jakabaring in southern section of Palembang. The club is widely known by their nickname, which is Laskar Wong Kito. Sriwijaya is the first club in Indonesia which achieves double titles achievement in the same season.

Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Palembang, South Sumatra and surrounding areas. It is located in the region KM.10 Talang Betutu District. It is named after Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin, the last Sultan of Palembang.

2018 Asian Games

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta–Palembang 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event held from 18 August to 2 September 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) originally awarded the games to Hanoi, Vietnam in November 2012, but the hosting rights were given up seventeen months later. Indonesia, which originally finished second in the bid, was considered as the strongest replacement candidate and eventually awarded the rights amid the 2014 games. Surabaya, the city put forward during the bid, was replaced by Jakarta and Palembang, having hosted the 2011 Southeast Asian Games together.

Archipelago International, formerly known as Aston International, is a full-service hotel management chain in Southeast Asia, and notably, the largest in Indonesia. DBL Arena

The DBL Arena is an indoor sporting arena located in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Located in the suburb of Surabaya, adjacent to the Graha Pena Building, it is renowned as one of the Indonesia's main venue for basketball matches. It is also home for the Developmental Basketball League, a basketball competition between junior and senior high schools formerly named DetEksi Basketball League (DBL). Maria Selena Nurcahya, known as Maria Selena, is an Indonesian actress and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Puteri Indonesia 2011 and was represented her country in Miss Universe 2012 pageant. She was represented Central Java in the Pemilihan Puteri Indonesia 2011. She made a Top 10 in the Miss Universe for Best National Costume. After the reign she decided to join Woman National Basketball League Indonesia as she grew up as a basketball player. Maria Selena made a debut in WNBL Indonesia with Surabaya Fever, then she signed with Merah Putih Predators Jakarta on her second season. She graduated and has a degree majoring Business in Bandung Institute of Technology. Recently, Maria Selena is working with Persatuan Bola Basket Indonesia and INASGOC for Asian Games 2018. She is well known as an actress and TV presenter.

The 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games is an international sporting event held in Palembang, Indonesia from 22 September to 1 October 2013. The 2009 event, originally scheduled to take place in Iran, and later re-scheduled for April 2010, was cancelled after a dispute arose between Iran and the Arab countries.

Iran at the 2018 Asian Games Sporting event delegation

Iran competed in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Iran has competed at the Asian Games since the first event in 1951 Delhi, and the best achievement was in 1974, when the country hosted the event in Tehran, by ranked second with the acquisition of 36 gold, 28 silver and 17 bronze medals. At the latest edition in Incheon, the country wrapped up its campaign with 57 medals in all - 21 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze.

Sport climbing has been included in the Asian Games since the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia.
