The Basque Country autonomous basketball team is the basketball team of the Basque Country. The team is not affiliated to FIBA, so only plays friendly games.

Contents

History

Basque Country played the Torneo de las Naciones, a tournament co-organized with Galicia and Catalonia. It was played from 2008 to 2010 and basques won the 2008 and 2009 editions.

In summer 2011, Basque Country, coached by Pablo Laso, played three games at Argentina. One against the 'B' team of, other with a team of players of Córdoba and a third game with the Argentina national basketball team. In this last game, where Argentina played with the team of the FIBA Americas Championship won Basque Country by a huge 92–28. [1]

In 2012 the team, coached again by Laso, played two games against Senegal. Basque Country won the first game by 86–74 [2] and lost the second one by 66–82. [3]

The Tunisia men's national basketball team, nicknamed The Eagles of Carthage, represents Tunisia in international basketball. The team is governed by the Tunisia Basketball Federation (FTBB). To date, she has taken part in the regional championship the AfroBasket 23 times. In terms of the number of successful performances, it is inferior to the traditionally strong teams of Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and Egypt. In 2011, the Tunisian national team became the champion of Africa for the first time in its history, defeating the Angola team in the AfroBasket 2011 final. AfroBasket 2009 was the 25th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. At stake were the three berths allocated to Africa in the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The tournament was hosted by Libya after Nigeria, the original host, withdrew from hosting after not conforming to FIBA Africa guidelines.

The Torneo de las Naciones is a friendly basketball tournament held in Spain co-organized by the basketball federations of Basque Country, Catalonia and Galicia. This three regional teams participate each year in a Final Four format with an invited national team.

The Basque Country national ice hockey team was the ice hockey team of the Spanish autonomous community of the Basque Country. They are controlled by the Basque Federation of Winter Sports. The team last participated in an international game in 2016, a 4–3 loss to Catalonia.

Club Gimnasia y Esgrima y Pedernera Unidos is a sports club from San Luis, Argentina. Established in 1925, basketball has been the most notable sport of the club, which senior team competed at the Liga Nacional, the top division of Argentine basketball league system, in the 1990s, winning two titles.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Americas region, began in November 2017 and concluded in February 2019. The process determined the seven teams that would participate at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
