The Bataraza Grand Mosque is a mosque located in the municipality of Bataraza in Palawan, Philippines. It is the largest mosque in the entire province of Palawan, with a capacity of approximately 2,000 people. [1] Its name is taken from the influential Muslim chieftain in the area, Datu Bataraza Narrazid, as well as the name of the area where the mosque stands. [2] [ better source needed ]
The concentration of Filipino Muslims in Palawan is mostly in the southern region, such as Balabac, Bataraza, Rizal, Quezon, and Brooke's Point. In these cities, Muslims are most likely to be dominant and hold political power. Thus, the desire to create a new Muslim place of worship grew. [3]
Because it is also supported by Mayor of Bataraza, Abraham M. Ibba in the welfare programs of the Muslim community and promoting diversity, as well as building an inclusive community, the construction of this mosque will finally be realized. [1]
Construction of the Bataraza Grand Mosque began in 2020, with a capacity of up to 2,000 people, making it the largest mosque in Palawan. This mosque is located in barangay of Marangas in municipality of Bataraza, near Saipodin Port. [1]
The mosque was then opened and inaugurated under the leadership of Mayor Abraham M. Ibba in the month of Ramadan 2023. Until then, this mosque regularly holds breaking the fast together ( iftar ) and tarawih prayers. [1]
