Beatrice Mukaye Wabudeya is a Ugandan veterinarian and politician. She is the former Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), in the Ugandan Cabinet, from 17 March 2011 until 27 May 2011. [1] Prior to that, she served as the Minister for the Presidency, from 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, she was replaced at the Ministry for the Presidency by Kabakumba Masiko. [2] She formerly served as the Member of Parliament (MP), representing Sironko District Women's Constituency from 2001 until 2011. [3]

Background and education

She was born in Sironko District on 12 December 1956. Beatrice Wabudeya graduated with a veterinary degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from Makerere University in 1979. She went on to obtain a Master of Science (MSc) degree, specializing in Agricultural Extension, also from Makerere University in 1996. [4]

Work experience

From 1979 until 1988, Beatrice Wabudeya worked as a Veterinary Officer in Mbale District. From 1988 until 1993, she worked as the Chief District Veterinary Officer for Mbale District. From 1993 until 1996, she served as the Chief Production Officer for Mbale District. In 1996, she entered politics and contested for the Mbale District Women's seat on the National Resistance Movement ticket. She won that seat and served until 2001. [5]

From 1998 until 1999, she served as Minister of State for Gender & Cultural Affairs. In 1999, she served as Minister of State for Health (Primary Health Care), a post she retained until 2001. In 2001, she contested for the seat of Women's Representative for Sironko District. She won that seat, and was re-elected in 2006. She was appointed Minister for the Presidency in 2006 [6] serving in that capacity until she was dropped from the cabinet in May 2011. For a period of two months, from 17 March 2011 [7] until 28 May 2011, she concurrently served as the Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority. [8]

In the past, she served as the elected MP representing the Sironko District Women's Constituency. In March 2011, she ran against Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) political party in "Budadiri County West" in Sironko District. [9] Mafabi won handily. [10] In 2014, she was appointed to be the Chairperson of the eight-member Presidential Awards Committee for the next five years. [11]

Other responsibilities

In addition to her responsibilities outlined earlier, she also serves as the chairperson of the board of directors of National Enterprise Corporation, effective 20 March 2014. [12]

She was also the elected Member of Parliament for Nakaseke County North, Nakaseke District She was the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy and also Chairperson of the Parliamentary Islamic Banking Forum. She was Sub-Saharan Africa's representative to the OIC Women Advisory Panel.

Frederick Douglas Mwanja Mukisa was a Ugandan educator and politician. He served as the State Minister for Fisheries in the Ugandan Cabinet, from 1 June 2006 until 27 May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Ruth Nankabirwa. He also served in the elected Ugandan Parliament, representing "Bukooli County Central", Bugiri District, from 2006 until 2011. During the 2011 national election cycle, he lost to Hajji Siraji Lyavala during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries, who in turn lost to Wafula Oguttu of the Forum for Democratic Change, in the general election. In March 2015, Siraji Lyavala was elected Chairman (LC-5) of Bugiri District.

He also served as the elected Member of Parliament (MP), representing "Buzaaya County", Kamuli District, from 1996 until 2011. During the 2011 national elections, he lost to Muzaale Martin Kisule Mugabi, during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries. In 2016, he bounced back into the 10th parliament, representing Buzaaya County, in Kamuli District, on the NRM ticket. Effective 14 December 2019, she concurrently serves as the State Minister for the Environment, in the Ugandan Cabinet. She replaced Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu, who was appointed Minister of Energy and Minerals, in the same cabinet.

Nathan Nandala Mafabi is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer, and a politician He represents Budadiri County West in Sironko District in the Ugandan parliament. From May 2011 until January 2014, he was the leader of the opposition in the parliament.

Lucy Akello is a Ugandan social worker and politician, who served as the member of parliament for the Amuru District Women's Constituency in the 10th Parliament. She was elected back to the eleventh Parliament representing Amuru District under FDC political party. She is a member of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and she serves as the shadow minister for labour, gender and social development.

Judith Nalule Nabakooba, is a Ugandan politician and former policewoman. She is currently the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 8 June 2021.
