The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, or BOCOG, also known as the Beijing Organizing Committee, was an informal name for the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. It was also the organizing committee for the Games of the XIII Paralympiad. The President of BOCOG was Liu Qi (simplified Chinese :刘淇; traditional Chinese :劉淇; pinyin :Liú Qí), the then CPC secretary of Beijing Municipality.

On December 13, 2001, the Organizing Committee for the XXIX Olympiad was officially constituted, initially headquartered at the Xinqiao Hotel in Chongwenmen, which previously housed the Beijing Olympic bidding committee. On September 28, 2002, the office was transferred to the Qinglan Building in Dongsishitiao, and on January 19, 2006, it was moved to the Beijing Olympic Mansion on the North Fourth Ring Road. [1]

On January 28, 2008, BOCOG took control of the Water Cube. [2]

On August 22, 2009, BOCOG is officially dissolved. [3] Its official website is now used by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) has set up a total of 22 functional departments, which were later increased to more than thirty as the preparatory work for the Olympic Games was in full swing. [4]

The 2008 Summer Olympics (2008年夏季奥运会), officially the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (第二十九届夏季奥林匹克运动会) and officially branded as Beijing 2008 (北京2008), were an international multisport event held from 8 to 24 August 2008, in Beijing, China. A total of 10,942 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 28 sports and 302 events, one event more than those scheduled for the 2004 Summer Olympics. This was the first time China had hosted the Olympic Games, and the third time the Summer Olympic Games had been held in East Asia, following the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. These were also the second Summer Olympic Games to be held in a communist state, the first being the 1980 Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union.

Liu Qi is a retired Chinese politician. He formerly served as the Communist Party Secretary of Beijing, and also a member of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party. He was also the President of the Beijing 2008 Olympics Organizing Committee.

For the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, a total of thirty-seven venues were used. Events took place at eleven pre-existing venues, twelve new venues constructed for the Olympics, and eight temporary venues that were removed following the games. In addition, six venues outside Beijing hosted events, two of which were newly built for the Olympics.

He was the first-ranked vice-chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). The 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament was a wushu competition which was held from August 21 to 24, 2008 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Beijing, China. The tournament was organised by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), and the Chinese Wushu Association (CWA), and was held in tandem with the 2008 Summer Olympics.

The opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics was held at the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. It began at 20:00 China Standard Time (UTC+08:00), on 8 August 2008, due to the significance of the number 8, which is considered to be auspicious and is furthermore associated with prosperity and confidence in Chinese culture. The artistic part of the ceremony comprised two parts titled "Brilliant Civilization" and "Glorious Era" respectively. The first part highlighted Chinese civilization and the second part exhibited modern China and its dream of harmony between the people of the world. The stadium was full to its 91,000 capacity according to organizers.

The former residence of Soong Ching Ling is a museum in the Shichahai area of Beijing, China, and once was the last residence of Soong Ching-ling, the wife of Sun Yat-sen and later Vice-President and Honorary President of the People's Republic of China in 1981. The museum opened in 1982, while it was listed as a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit. It was renovated in 2009, and is dedicated to her memory.

The Beijing–Zhangjiakou Railway or Jingzhang Railway, also known as the Imperial Peking–Kalgan Railway, is China’s first railway that has been designed and built solely by Chinese, situated in the nation’s capital Beijing and Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province. It was built in 1905–1909 under the proposal of Viceroy of Zhili Yuan Shikai and Assistant Director-General of Railways Hu Yufen (胡燏棻), with Zhan Tianyou as engineer-in-chief. When building the railway, Zhan reduced the length of Badaling Tunnel by using a switchbackor “人”-shaped rail track called in China as the shape of it resembles the Chinese character “人” ; he also used vertical shafts to facilitate the excavation of the tunnel.

Xinfadi Market is a covered wholesale food market in the southern Beijing district of Fengtai. As of 2020, the market provides more than 90% of Beijing's fruits and vegetables according to state media. Seafood and meat are also sold at the market. Vendors distribute produce from Xinfadi to many smaller markets in Beijing. It is nicknamed the "vegetable basket" and "fruit bowl" of the city.

The Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party is the municipal committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Beijing. The CCP committee secretary is the highest ranking post in the city. The current secretary is Yin Li, a member of the CCP Politburo, who succeeded Cai Qi on 13 November 2022.

Li Binghua, originally from Guangshan, Henan Province, was a politician in the People's Republic of China.

Li Zhijian, native from Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, is a political leader of the People's Republic of China. He served as the party secretary and deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China, as well as the president of the All-China Sports Federation.
