Beira-Mar Futebol Club or as Beira-Mar Futebol Clube do Maio (Portuguese for "by the sea", Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Bera-Mar) is a football club that plays in the Maio Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in Cidade do Maio (Porto Inglês) the island of Maio Island and plays at Estádio 20 de Janeiro.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.

Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field called a pitch with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal.

History

The football (soccer) club was founded in 1978 and is an affiliate of Portugal's S.C. Beira-Mar based in Aveiro, one of several in Cape Verde and the first Portuguese based club founded in Maio. Its uniform is nearly the same as the Portuguese club but slightly different. Other club affiliated to Beira Mar in the nation is in Tarrafal. The club in Ribeira Grande on the island of Santo Antão is not affiliated to the Aveiro club.

Sport Clube Beira-Mar is a Portuguese sports club based in Aveiro, Portugal. Its football team currently plays in the Aveiro FA First Division, holding home games at Estádio Mário Duarte.

Beira-Mar Desportivo Clube or Clube Desportivo Beira-Mar is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Santo Antão Island League South Zone in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Ribeira Grande in the northwestern part of the island of Santo Antão.

Beira-Mar has a single regional championship title won in 1997 and was the island's third club to do so. Beira-Mar appeared once at the 1997 Cape Verdean Football Championships. In 2008, the title total became fourth and last which was shared with Barreirense until 2010 and Beira Mar's total is fifth and last.

In the 2013-14 season, the club finished 4th with 5 points and scored eight goals. The club was withdrawn during the 2014-15 season and returned in the following season. The club finished last place in the 2015-16 season with 4 points and had a win and 10 losses, the club also scored 7 goals and became the first club in Maio to be relegated. Around September 2016, before the Opening Tournament, the club withdrawn for the 2016-17 season due to financial problems, then the whole regional competition.

The region's only relegated club returned for the 2017-18 season, Beira-Mar enjoyed their first match in the regional cup with a loss to Académica da Calheta on November 12. Beira Mar is placed in Group B and is fourth place and has the final ability to qualify for the semis in their next two group matches.. Beira-Mar do Maio played their first Second Division match with Cruzeiro on December 17 which made a 1-4 win as away. Another high scoring match was made with a 5-0 win over Santa Clara in their first match of 2018, their third and recent win, the highest scoring match overall in Maio with another win over Santa Clara and a higher result, 0-8 as away. Beira Mar was first place with 10 points and had a chance to return to the Premier Division in the following season, their final match of the season was against Figueirense, second place and completely lost the club's planned return with a 1-3 loss and Beira-Mar finished second, they will spend their second season in the Second Division. Until March 2018, Beira Mar was the only unrelegated club on the island, it will be alongside Santana de Morrinho next season.

Its logo has a yellow seal encircled with a silver line, it has a brown eagle carrying the seal on top. The full name of the club and the club's location is on the bottom. Inside the seal has the letters written in white BM. The middle part of the B covers the letter M, also in the middle is an anchor. The anchor covers the middle and the lower part of the letter M and the outer parts of the letter B, on the bottom is the year of foundation of the club. It has the same logo to the Portuguese club but not the eagle.
