The Belgium cricket team toured Malta in July 2021 to play five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches at the Marsa Sports Club in Marsa. [1] [2] The Maltese team had been due to play a four-match series in Belgium in 2021, [3] but this was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4] As preparation for the series, the Belgium team were scheduled to play four T20 exhibition games against the Netherlands A cricket team in June 2021, [5] but these matches were later cancelled. [6] Malta were declared winners of the fourth T20I after five penalty runs were retrospectively added to their total. [7] [8] Belgium won the series 3–2. [9]

The participating teams were the hosts Malta along with Czech Republic, Iceland and a Hungary XI. Matches played between Malta and the Czech Republic had official Twenty20 International (T20I) status, but because Iceland were not an Associate Member of the ICC and the selected Hungarian squad was not an official national side, matches involving either of these teams did not have T20I status. The matches were played at Marsa Sports Club in Marsa. The Hungarian XI won all of their round-robin matches and their semi-final, but were beaten by the Czech Republic in the final.

The 2021–22 Uganda Tri-Nation Series, also known as the Pearl of Africa T20I Series, was a Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket tournament that was held in Uganda in September 2021. The participating teams were the hosts Uganda, along with Kenya and Nigeria. The tournament was originally planned to consist of 13 T20I matches, with the sides facing each other four times in a round-robin stage, followed by a final between the top two teams. The round-robin was later reduced by three matches with each team facing each other three times. The tournament provided preparation for all sides ahead of T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier events took place in October and November 2021.

The Belgium women's cricket team toured Austria in September 2021 to play a three-match bilateral Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) series. The matches were played at the Seebarn Cricket Ground in Lower Austria, and were the first official WT20I matches played by Belgium. Austria won the series 3–0.

The Sierra Leone cricket team toured Nigeria in October 2021 to play six Twenty20 International (T20I) matches at the University of Lagos (Unilag) Cricket Oval in the Akoka suburb of Lagos. The series provided both sides with preparation for the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in November 2021. The series also saw a resumption of the long-running cricketing rivalry between the two north-west African nations.

The 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier is a cricket tournament that forms part of the qualification process for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. In May 2022, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed all the fixtures and venues for the three sub-regional Qualifiers.

The Czech Republic and Hungary last featured in the 2019 Valletta Cup, in which the Czechs beat a Hungary XI in the final.
