Ben Arbuckle (born September 15, 1995) is an American college football coach and former player. He is the offensive coordinator for the University of Oklahoma. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at Washington State.

Playing career

Arbuckle grew up in Canadian, Texas and attended Canadian High School. [1] He became Canadian's starting quarterback going into his junior season. [2] Arbuckle passed for over 7,500 yards and with 95 touchdown passes during his high school career. [3]

Arbuckle originally intended to play college football at UTSA, but decided to step away from the game. [4] He later enrolled at West Texas A&M University and joined the West Texas A&M Buffaloes football team after a two year hiatus from the sport. [3] Arbuckle started seven games as a junior and passed for 1,241 yards and 15 touchdowns. [5] He competed for the Buffaloes' starting quarterback job going into his senior season, but was not named the starter. [6]

Coaching career

Arbuckle began his coaching career as an offensive quality control assistant at Houston Baptist University. He spent two years at that position. Arbuckle worked with Zach Kittley to coach Bailey Zappe and the rest of the Houston Baptist offense. Arbuckle was hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Seminole High School in Seminole, Texas, in the summer of 2020. [7]

Western Kentucky

In 2021, Arbuckle was hired as a quality control coach at Western Kentucky University (WKU) by former Houston Baptist offensive coordinator Zach Kittley. Arbuckle was promoted to quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator after Kittley left at the end of the 2021 to become the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech. [8] Western Kentucky's offense finished sixth nationally in yards per game, first in total passing yards, and 15th in points per game with Arbuckle as the primary play caller in 2022. [9]

Washington State

Arbuckle was hired as the offensive coordinator at Washington State in January 2023. [10] At 27, he was the youngest Power 5 primary coordinator in the country at the time of the hire. [11]

Oklahoma

Arbuckle was hired as the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma on December 2, 2024. [12]

Major Lee Applewhite is an American football coach and former player who has been the head coach for the South Alabama Jaguars since January of 2024. He started his coaching career in 2003 and in addition to South Alabama and Houston he has held various positions at Texas, Syracuse, Rice and Alabama.

Chris Palmer is an American former football coach and college athletics administrator. Palmer served as the head coach for Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL) from 1999 to 2000 and in the same capacity with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League (UFL) in 2010. He was the head football coach at the University of New Haven from 1986 to 1987 and at Boston University from 1988 to 1989. Palmer has also served as an assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills of the NFL. Nesbitt was the offensive coordinator for the Houston Cougars football team at the University of Houston at the start of the 2012 college football season. Nathaniel Hackett is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). A former long-time assistant to Doug Marrone, Hackett previously served as the offensive coordinator for the NFL's Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills. He held several positions for the Syracuse Orange in college football from 2010 to 2012. He served as the head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2022, but was fired during the season after a 4–11 record.

Tyson Helton is an American college football coach and former quarterback who is the current head coach at Western Kentucky. He played college football at Houston from 1996 to 1999. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Tennessee (2018), quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at USC (2016–2017), offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky (2014–2015), and as an assistant at Cincinnati, UAB, Memphis, and Hawaii.

Bailey Michael Zappe is an American professional football quarterback. He played his first three seasons of college football for the Houston Baptist Huskies and used his last year of eligibility with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, where he set the FBS season records for passing yards and passing touchdowns. Zappe was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft and mostly served as backup until becoming their primary starter near the end of the 2023 season.

Zach Kittley is an American football coach who is the head coach at Florida Atlantic University. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky University, Houston Baptist University, and Texas Tech University.

Bryan Ellis is an American football coach who is currently the tight ends coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.
