Bengi Yildiz (born 15 November 1965 in Kozluk,Batman Province,Turkey) was a Member of Parliament of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) for Batman,Turkey.
Bengi Yildiz is a lawyer by training,graduating from Istanbul University Law Faculty,and has worked as a journalist for the newspapers Gündem,Demokrasi,Ülkeden Özgür Gündem. [1]
He is a former president of the Batman branch of the Turkish Human Rights Association (IHD). [2]
In July 2007,he stood as an independent candidate for the Democratic Society Party (DTP) supported Thousand Hopes alliance in the Turkish parliamentary elections and entered the Turkish Parliament as an MP for Batman,joining the DTP. He was a member of the Turkey EU Joint parliamentary committee. [1]
He was re-elected in the 12 June 2011 general election. [3]

On 25 July 2011 he declared that Kurds under the control of PKK/BDP would stop paying taxes to the Turkish government. [4] He suggested that PKK/BDP would form a Libyan Jumhuriya type of structure whereby in every neighborhood and city the PKK/BDP supported Kurds would locally organize and abolish political parties to create a "self-determined democratic" autonomy. He furthermore suggested that although PKK/BDP supported Kurds want to be exempt from taxes it is still the responsibility of the Turkish Republic to invest in their infrastructure,roads,schools and pay for their public servants. During his term as MP,he was an outspoken supporter of speaking the Kurdish language. [6] This drew criticism from Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin from the Justice and Development Party (AKP),reminding him that to speak Kurdish was not allowed according to Article 81 of the Political Parties Law. [7]
Feleknas Uca is a German-Turkish politician of Kurdish descent. From 1999 to 2009,she was member of the European Parliament from Germany,serving with Die Linke. Feleknas Uca was at one time the world's only Yazidi parliamentarian until the Iraqi legislature was elected in 2005. In June 2015,she was elected as a Member of Parliament in Turkey representing Diyarbakır.
Leyla Zana is a Kurdish politician. She was imprisoned for ten years for her political activism,which was deemed by the Turkish courts to be against the unity of the country. She was awarded the 1995 Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament but was unable to collect it until her release in 2004. She was also awarded the Rafto Prize in 1994 after being recognized by the Rafto Foundation for being incarcerated for her peaceful struggle for the human rights of the Kurdish people in Turkey and the neighbouring countries.
The Democratic Society Party was a Kurdish nationalist political party in Turkey. The party considered itself social-democratic and had observer status in the Socialist International. It was considered to be the successor of the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP). The party was established in 2005 and succeeded in getting elected more than ninety mayors in the municipal elections of 2009. On 11 December 2009,the Constitutional Court of Turkey banned the DTP,ruling that the party has become "focal point of activities against the indivisible unity of the state,the country and the nation". The ban has been widely criticized both by groups within Turkey and by several international organizations. The party was succeeded by the Peace and Democracy Party.

The Labour,Democracy and Freedom Bloc was an electoral alliance formed by the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) with several other smaller left-wing parties and political movements in Turkey. The Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey later annulled the election of BDP MP Hatip Dicle in Diyarbakır,reducing the alliance's elected MPs to 35. The Bloc fielded 65 candidates in 41 provinces.
