The Bensalem Police Department is the police department in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1951. The department has about 100 sworn officers and fifty support employees. It is one of the fifteen largest police departments in Pennsylvania.

Present-day Bensalem Police Department

The department's staff includes a deputy director and five sworn officers in the rank of lieutenant. Frederick Harran, Bensalem’s director of public safety believed the "number of officers is still low compared to other towns of similar geographic and population sizes". [1]

In December 2019, Bensalem Police hosted a public safety luncheon toy drive where toys are collected for needy families in the township. [2]

Divisions

The department includes a number of divisions; Patrol Division, with about 64 officers. Motor Patrol, with five officers who use motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. K-9 with five officers handling five dogs. Explorers, a branch of the Boy Scouts of America.

Twitter Presence

In April 2021 the Police Department posted an infamous tweet asking members of the public to submit photographs (via a website) of children on bicycles who were "causing traffic issues". The tweet and the policy received widespread condemnation.

History

Established in 1951 when Bensalem Township had 11,500 residents, the Bensalem Police began with one car and two police officers. By the 1970s, the department had grown rapidly numbering about 29 officers. Over the years, the department has retired over 28 police dogs, and has grown to over 100 officers. It is ranked in the top 15 in Pennsylvania police departments.

Warminster Township is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States and was formally established in 1711. It is 13.7 miles north of Philadelphia and had a population of 32,682 according to the 2010 U.S. census.

Pennsylvania Route 132 (PA 132) is a state highway in southeast Pennsylvania. The route runs northwest to southeast through Bucks County in suburban Philadelphia from PA 611 in Warrington southeast to Interstate 95 (I-95) in Bensalem. PA 132 is a commercial route lined with shopping centers throughout much of its 15-mile (24 km) length. It is named Street Road and is five lanes wide for much of its length. The route was also designated as the Armed Forces and Veterans Memorial Highway in 2005. From west to east, PA 132 crosses PA 263 and PA 332 in Warminster; PA 232 in Southampton; PA 532 in Feasterville; and U.S. Route 1 (US 1), the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276), PA 513, and US 13 in Bensalem. Street Road was included in William Penn's survey plans and completed by 1737. The road was paved by 1911 and received the PA 132 designation by 1927. The route was widened into a multi-lane highway and extended to I-95 by 1970. An E-ZPass-only interchange with the eastbound direction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike opened in 2010.

Neshaminy Mall is a 1,025,297-square-foot (95,253 m2) shopping mall located at U.S. Route 1 and Bristol Road in Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania. The mall was opened in 1968 and was the sixth interior mall constructed in Greater Philadelphia. The Neshaminy Mall is anchored by Boscov's and AMC Theatres and has 65 shops and eateries including a food court that was opened in 1989 and retailers including American Eagle Outfitters, Barnes & Noble, and Foot Locker.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is the highway patrol agency for North Carolina which has no per-se "state police" agency. California State University police departments

The California State University police departments(CSUPD) in the California State University system are referred to as CAL State Police, or University Police, the police officers are duly sworn peace officers of the State of California, as established by section 830.2(c) of the California Penal Code. There are a total of 23 campuses in the California State University system, each with their own police department. Each csu' police department has its own chain of command, however some of the policies are system-wide.

Indianapolis Police Department

The Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) was the principal law enforcement agency of Indianapolis, Indiana, under the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Indianapolis and Director of Public Safety. Prior to the consolidation with the Law Enforcement Division of the Marion County Sheriff's Department to form the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 1,230 sworn police officers and 250 non-sworn personnel were employed by the department.

Gene D. DiGirolamo served as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 18th District from 1995 to 2020. He serves as the Bucks County Commissioner after being sworn in on January 6, 2020. A special election to fill the remainder of the term was held on March 17 and won by Republican K.C. Tomlinson, whose father, State Senator Tommy Tomlinson, previously held this house seat from 1991 to 1994.

The United States police-rank model is generally quasi-military in structure. A uniform system of insignia based on that of the US Army and Marine Corps is used to help identify an officer's seniority.

The Pennridge Regional Police is a regional police force covering East and West Rockhill Townships in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It is headquartered at 200 Ridge Rd. Sellersville, Pennsylvania. The current Police Chief is Rodney T. Blake.

Cheltenham Township Police Department

The Cheltenham Township Police Department is a police department that operates under the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Montgomery County. It patrols the 9.0 square mile township of Cheltenham, which comprises Glenside, Elkins Park, Wyncote, La Mott, Melrose Park, Laverock and Cheltenham Village. Cheltenham Police operates as the third largest police force in Montgomery County, serving over 37,000 residents, in addition to answering more than 25,000 calls in 2008.

Cocoa Police Department

The Cocoa Police Department (CPD) is a state-certified agency, and is the primary law enforcement agency for Cocoa, Florida. The department services approximately 19,000 residents within 15.41 sq miles of the municipality. The department also serves approximately 2,500 daily non-residents who commute to the municipality for employment.
