Benyamin Davnie (born 1 September 1958) is an Indonesian politician who is the current mayor of South Tangerang,having served since 2021. Before being elected mayor in 2020,he was vice mayor under Airin Rachmi Diany between 2011 and 2021,and was previously a civil servant in the municipal government of Tangerang Regency.
Benyamin Davnie was born in Pandeglang Regency,West Java (today in Banten province),on 1 September 1958. He was the child of Mugni Sastradipura (d. 2000) and Ratnaningsih Mugni (d. 2003). Sastradipura served in the Indonesian Army and reached the rank of colonel. He studied at state-funded swchools in Tangerang,before [1] [2] He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Padjadjaran University's faculty of politics and social science. [3]
His career as a civil servant began as a volunteer staff,before he was appointed as a full civil servant of Tangerang Regency. He gradually rose through the ranks,becoming the district head at Ciledug,Cisoka,and Tigaraksa throughout the late 1980s and the 1990s. He was also head of public relations for the regency. He also headed a number of departments within the regency's bureaucracy. [4]
In 2010,Benyamin ran as the running mate to Airin Rachmi Diany to become the mayor of newly formed South Tangerang. The pair was elected with 46.43% of the votes out of four candidates. [5] The pair was sworn in on 20 April 2011. [6] Airin and Benyamin ran for a second term in 2015,securing 59.62% of the votes. [7] They were sworn in for their second term on 20 April 2016. [8]
In the 2020 mayoral election,Benyamin ran as a mayoral candidate with the endorsement of Golkar,with Pilar Saga Ichsan (Airin's nephew) as his running mate. [9] The pair won 235,734 votes (40.9%),defeating two other tickets. [10] Benyamin and Pilar were sworn in on 26 April 2021. [11] Prior to the mayoral election,he had been a member of the Nasdem Party,but he left the party after he secured Golkar's endorsement in the election while Nasdem did not endorse him. [12]
Ratu Atut Chosiyah is a former governor of the province of Banten,Indonesia. She was suspended from office in 2014 because of a corruption case. She held office for several terms. Before her election as governor in 2006,she was the deputy governor under Djoko Munandar starting from 11 January 2002. Djoko was involved in a corruption case and was suspended from office in October 2005. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed Ratu Atut as the acting governor to take over Djoko's administrative duties and she later became governor. She thus became the first female governor in Indonesia. In May 2014,she was formally charged by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission for alleged corruption. In early September 2014,she was sentenced to a four-year term of imprisonment on the charges brought by the Commission against her. In September 2022,Ratu Atut was released on parole.
South Tangerang is a city in the province of Banten,Indonesia. Located 30 km (19 mi) on the southwestern border of Jakarta,the city forms part of the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area. It was administratively separated from Tangerang Regency on 26 November 2008. According to the 2020 Census,the city population was 1,354,350 inhabitants,while the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 1,404,785 - comprising 700,754 males and 704,031 females. The total area is 164.85 km2 (63.65 sq mi). It is the second-largest city in Banten in terms of population,and has grown rapidly,not only as Jakarta's satellite city,but also the development of business districts and commerce due to presence of large-scale planned town by private developers.
Airin Rachmi Diany is an Indonesian politician who served as the mayor of South Tangerang from 2011 to 2021. She is also the aunt of Banten lieutenant governor Andika Hazrumy. She has led several initiatives to combat recruitment of people in her city by radical fundamentalist groups,including interfaith forums,with the support of Indonesia's central government. She also commissioned a canal project in order to prevent flooding on the Jakarta–Serpong Toll Road in February 2017.
Drs. Kyai Hajji Habib Ali Alwi bin Thohir Al Husainy is an Indonesian politician,da'i,Islamic scholar and founder of the Pondok Pesantren Modern Al-Husainy,Serpong,South Tangerang,Banten. At the election of regional head and deputy regional head of Tangerang Regency in 2008,Alwi was nominated by the Democrat Party and the National Awakening Party as a candidate for vice regent along with Usamah Hisyam as a candidate for regent,but this pair was defeated by incumbent candidate Ismet Iskandar with Rano Karno as his deputy. Currently,Alwi serves as a senator representing the province of Banten in the Regional Representative Council.
A gubernatorial election was held on 15 February 2017 to elect the governor of Banten province for the five-year term between 2017 and 2022. The election was held simultaneously with other provincial and local elections across the country as part of the 2017 local elections. It pitted incumbent Rano Karno against People's Representative Council member and former mayor of Tangerang Wahidin Halim.
The 2018 South Sumatra gubernatorial election took place on 27 June 2018 as part of the simultaneous local elections. It was held to elect the governor of South Sumatra along with their deputy,whilst members of the provincial council will be re-elected in 2019.
