The Best Footballer in Asia 2013 was the inaugural Best Footballer in Asia. Based upon the voting of a panel of 22 journalists the winner was Keisuke Honda. On March 16, 2014, the trophy was conferred to Keisuke Honda by Luo Ming, the deputy chief editor of Titan Sports in San Siro stadium. [1]

The panel was constituted by 18 journalists from AFC nations/regions including Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Macao, Qatar, Palestine Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arabic Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and 4 journalists from England, France, Germany and Italy representing non-AFC media outlets.

American Football Conference One of two conferences in the National Football League

The American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the United States. This conference currently contains 16 teams organized into 4 divisions, as does its counterpart, the National Football Conference (NFC). Both conferences were created as part of the 1970 merger between the National Football League, and the American Football League (AFL). All ten of the AFL teams, and three NFL teams, became members of the new AFC, with the remaining thirteen NFL teams forming the NFC. 2011 AFC Asian Cup International football competition

The 2011 AFC Asian Cup was the 15th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The finals were held in Qatar from 7 to 29 January 2011. It was the fifteenth time the tournament has been held, and the second time it has been hosted by Qatar, the other being the 1988 AFC Asian Cup. Japan won the cup after a 1–0 win against Australia, and earned the right to compete in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil as the representative from AFC.

The 2015 AFC Asian Cup was the 16th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It was held in Australia from 9 to 31 January 2015. The tournament was won by Australia after defeating South Korea 2–1 in extra time in the final, thereby earning the right to participate in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, which was hosted by Russia. The win was Australia's first Asian title since their move from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) in 2006. It was also the first time a men's team has become champions of two confederations, following Australia's four OFC Nations Cup titles: 1980, 1996, 2000 and 2004; right after the Australian women's team won the 2010 AFC Women's Asian Cup.

Marcus Ardel Taulauniu Mariota is an American football quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). Group D of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup was one of four groups of nations competing at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The group's first round of matches were played on 12 January, the second round on 16 January, and the final round on 20 January. All six group matches were played at venues in Australia. The group consisted of title holders Japan, Jordan, Iraq and Palestine. Japan and Iraq advanced as group winners and runners-up respectively, while Jordan and Palestine were eliminated.

The Asian section of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification acted as qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, held in Russia, for national teams which were members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). 4.5 slots in the final tournament were available for AFC teams.

The 2014 Best Footballer in Asia, given to the best football player in Asia as judged by a panel of sports journalists, was awarded to Son Heung-min on 28 November 2014.

It was his 5th Best Footballer in Asia title in a row, and the 7th title overall. The event was judged by a panel of 50 sports journalists. Son Heung-min received 31 1st-place votes, 10 2nd-place votes, 4 3rd-place votes, 2 4th-place votes and finished on 242 points in total.
