Black Honey is a British four-piece indie rock band formed in Brighton, England in 2014. The band is composed of lead singer and guitarist Izzy Baxter Phillips, guitarist Chris Ostler, bassist Tommy Taylor, and drummer Alex Woodward, who joined the group after the departure of Tom Dewhurst. [3] [4] [5] [6]
The band released an eponymous self-titled debut EP in late 2014 followed by a self-titled debut album in 2018. [7] The album reached number 33 on the UK Albums Chart. [8] Black Honey released their second album, Written & Directed , in March 2021. The album reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart.
The band started when Izzy met Chris at university and started to write music together. Originally called 'Whats Your Vice?' from 2009 until 2011, the band went through several lineup changes, originally Izzy B. Phillips on vocals and guitar, Chris Ostler on guitar, Tom Chilton on Bass and Cookie on Drums. The band went through a string of bass players and eventually current band member Tommy Taylor joined 'Whats Your Vice?' on drums. They released a song called "Vampire".
By 2012 they had changed their name to 'Kill Moon', with Izzy, Chris, Tommy (now on bass) and Tom Dew on drums. The band released a series of singles, as well as an EP titled Jupiter.
Black Honey officially formed in June 2014, releasing their first song under this name, "Sleep Forever", in the same month. Subsequent songs were released to form a self-titled debut EP, released in November 2014. The EP featured the tracks "Sleep Forever", "Teenager", "The Taste" and "Bloodlust". [9] [10]
The band toured during 2015, as well as playing Focus Wales Festival; Live at Leeds; Live at Glasgow; The Great Escape Festival; Wychwood Festival; Croatia Rocks; Secret Garden Party; 2000 Trees; Y Not Festival; Standon Calling; Kendal Calling; and Sunflower Lounge Birmingham. [11] The band generated a lot of media interest during 2015. [12]
In April 2015, the single "Spinning Wheel" was released. [13] [14] This was followed by the single "Madonna" the following July. [15] The band were also invited to do a BBC Radio 1 Session for Huw Stephens and supported Superfood at The Rainbow Warehouse Birmingham on 8 April 2015. [16]
The band continued to tour in 2016, and supported Catfish and the Bottlemen on their UK tour. In June 2016, they released a second EP titled Headspin. [17] [18] [19] The EP featured the tracks "All My Pride", "Headspin", "On Your Time" and "Mocking Swing".
In Spring 2017, the band embarked on a headline UK tour. [20] The band were in the Netherlands for the NPO 3FM festival later in the year. Black Honey also supported Royal Blood on a UK and Europe arena tour in 2017. [21]
On 21 September 2018, the band's debut self-titled album Black Honey was released. The band embarked on an autumn tour during this year to promote the debut album. The band were also in Europe for a headline tour later in the year. In November 2018, the band released the single "Crowded City" with an accompanying music video. [22] This single appeared on the self-titled debut album.
In 2019, the band were reported to be writing and recording songs for a second studio album, predicted to be released early 2020. In April 2019, the band were NME front cover stars. [23] The band did a headlining tour during 2019, and also played Live At Leeds and Handmade Festival, Leicester. During this UK tour, the band released YouTube material titled “le Crousti Garçons”, which was just a bit of fun for the fans. [24] [25] The video for the single "Midnight" was nominated at the Berlin Music Video Awards 2019. [26]
The band continued to perform during the year, including sets at Poltimore Festival, Exeter; Dauwpop Fest, Netherlands; Vestrock Fest, Netherlands; Hurricane Festival, Scheeßel, Germany; and Rock Werchter Fest, Belgium. [27] In Summer 2019, the band performed at Y Not Festival, Matlock, UK; Neverworld Festival, Edenbridge, UK; Grape Festival, Slovakia; Summer Well Festival, Domeniul Stirbey, Buftea, Romania; Reading Festival, UK; Leeds Festival, UK; and Lost Village, Lincoln, UK.
A song titled "I Don’t Ever Wanna Love" was being played in live sets around this time. This song was released as a single in June 2019 with a music video featuring an art deco Ibiza hotel as a backdrop. [28] [29]
Later in 2019, drummer Tom Dewhurst left the band. Alex Woodward later joined the band as the new drummer and percussionist.
The band performed their first gig of 2020, with new member Alex Woodward, at the Green Door Store, Brighton on 29 January. [30] In July 2020, the band released the single “Beaches”, [31] the first from their upcoming second album. An accompanying music video was also released, which was produced “in house” by members of the band during COVID-19 restrictions. [32]
In September 2020, DIY held a week-long 100th issue party. On 9 September 2020, Black Honey held a headline performance at the event under COVID-19 restrictions. A second single was released on 18 September 2020, titled "Run for Cover". A music video for this single was released on 25 September 2020, which was filmed in an empty working men's club. The video was directed by Sam Kinsella, and production and styling was handled by Craig Hemming. [33]
Two more singles were later released: "Believer" on 8 January 2021, [34] and "Disinfect" on 19 February 2021. "Disinfect" was released with an accompanying music video. [35]
On 19 March 2021, the band released their second album, titled Written & Directed . It entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 7 on 26 March 2021, as well as No. 1 on the UK independent chart. On the Scottish album chart, the album achieved position No. 3. On the UK vinyl chart and the UK cassette chart, the album held position No. 2. On the UK physical chart, the album held position No. 4. [36]
The band headlined a ten-date UK tour between 23 September and 13 October 2021.
The band released the single "Charlie Bronson" on 11 August 2022. This was followed by the single "Out of My Mind" on 4 October 2022, with an accompanying music video.
On 7 November 2022, the band announced their third album A Fistful of Peaches , which was released on 17 March 2023. The band also released the single "Heavy" on the same day, releasing its music video the day after on 8 November 2022.

Creeper are an English rock band from Southampton. Formed in 2014, the group originally featured vocalist Will Gould, guitarists Ian Miles and Sina Nemati, bassist Sean Scott, and drummer Dan Bratton. The band independently released their self-titled debut EP in 2014, before signing with Roadrunner Records and issuing follow-up The Callous Heart the next year. At the end of 2015, Nemati was replaced by Oliver Burdett and touring keyboardist/second vocalist Hannah Greenwood became an official band member. A third EP, The Stranger, was released in 2016 and reached the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart top ten.
Black Stone Cherry is an American rock band, formed in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky. They were signed to Roadrunner Records until 2015; the band is now signed to Mascot Label Group. The band consists of Chris Robertson, Ben Wells, Steve Jewell and John Fred Young. Black Stone Cherry has released eight studio albums as well as two EPs, and have charted seventeen singles on the US Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. Their latest album, Screamin' at the Sky, was released in 2023.
Alestorm are a Scottish heavy metal band formed in Perth, Scotland. Their music is characterised by a pirate theme, and as a result, they have been dubbed a "pirate metal" band by many critics and their fanbase. The group currently consists of lead vocalist/keytarist Christopher Bowes, bassist Gareth Murdock, drummer Peter Alcorn, keyboardist/harsh vocalist Elliot Vernon and guitarist Máté "Bobo" Bodor.
The Script is an Irish rock band formed in 2001 in Dublin, by lead vocalist, keyboardist, guitarist Danny O'Donoghue, lead guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power. The band moved to London after signing to Sony Label Group imprint Phonogenic and released their first album The Script in August 2008, preceded by the debut single "We Cry" as well as other singles such as "The Man Who Can't Be Moved", "Breakeven" and "Before the Worst". The album peaked at number one in both Ireland and the UK. Their next three albums, Science & Faith (2010), #3 (2012) and No Sound Without Silence (2014), all topped the album charts in Ireland and the UK, while Science & Faith reached number two in Australia and number three in the United States. Some of the hit singles from the albums include "For the First Time", "Nothing", "Hall of Fame" and "Superheroes". The band's fifth studio album, Freedom Child, was released on 1 September 2017, and features the UK Top 20 single "Rain". Their sixth studio album, Sunsets & Full Moons, was released on 8 November 2019, and features the single "The Last Time". A Greatest Hits album was released on 1 October 2021.
Born of Osiris is an American progressive metalcore band formed in 2003 in Palatine, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Ronnie Canizaro, lead guitarist Lee McKinney, rhythm guitarist/bassist Nick Rossi, drummer Cameron Losch, and keyboardist/vocalist Joe Buras. Born of Osiris has played at various festivals including the Summer Slaughter Tour and the Music as a Weapon Tour 4.
Don Broco are a British rock band formed in Bedford, England, in 2008. The band consists of Rob Damiani, Simon Delaney (guitar), Tom Doyle and Matt Donnelly. The band have released four studio albums, including Priorities (2012), Automatic (2015) and Technology (2018). Bastille are a British indie pop band formed in 2010. The group began as a solo project by lead vocalist Dan Smith, but later expanded to include keyboardist Kyle Simmons, bassist and guitarist Will Farquarson and drummer Chris "Woody" Wood.

Izzy Miller is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. His first success came with his band Storage with the release of their 2009 single "Just a Little More". Miller left Storage in 2010 and began a solo career. After releasing Back From Nowhere, his first solo album, in 2010, he paired up with drummer Smokin' Joey Gambrell. Miller and Gambrell went on to release Who Is That? Nobody in 2012.
Nothing but Thieves are an English rock band, formed in 2012 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. They consist of lead vocalist and guitarist Conor Mason, guitarist Joe Langridge-Brown, guitarist and keyboardist Dominic Craik, bassist Philip Blake, and drummer James Price. In 2014, they signed to RCA Records and a year later in October 2015, they released their self-titled debut album.
