C. Blake Doriot is an American politician,businessman,and land surveyor serving as a member of the Indiana Senate from the 12th district. He assumed office on November 9,2016.
Doriot is a native of Elkhart County,Indiana. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in construction from Purdue University in 1982. [1]
After graduating from college,Doriot became a land surveyor. He is licensed to work in Indiana,Wisconsin,and Ohio. Doriot served as the surveyor of Elkhart County for 24 years. [2] He also owns B Doriot &Associates Land Surveying. [3] Doriot was elected to the Indiana Senate in November 2016. Since 2019,he has also served as ranking member of the Senate Pensions and Labor Committee. [4]
Goshen is a city in and the county seat of Elkhart County,Indiana,United States. It is the smaller of the two principal cities of the Elkhart–Goshen Metropolitan Statistical Area,which in turn is part of the South Bend–Elkhart–Mishawaka Combined Statistical Area. It is located in the northern part of Indiana near the Michigan border,in a region known as Michiana. Goshen is located 10 miles southeast of Elkhart,25 miles southeast of South Bend,120 miles east of Chicago,and 150 miles north of Indianapolis. The population of Goshen was 34,517 at the 2020 census.
Thomas Andrews Hendricks was an American politician and lawyer from Indiana who served as the 16th governor of Indiana from 1873 to 1877 and the 21st vice president of the United States from March until his death in November 1885. Hendricks represented Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives (1851–1855) and the U.S. Senate (1863–1869). He also represented Shelby County,Indiana,in the Indiana General Assembly (1848–1850) and as a delegate to the 1851 Indiana constitutional convention. In addition,Hendricks served as commissioner of the United States General Land Office (1855–1859). Hendricks,a popular member of the Democratic Party,was a fiscal conservative. He defended the Democratic position in the U.S. Senate during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era and voted against the Thirteenth,Fourteenth,and Fifteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. He also opposed Radical Reconstruction and President Andrew Johnson's removal from office following Johnson's impeachment in the U.S. House.

Jacqueline Renae Walorski was an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for Indiana's 2nd congressional district from 2013 until her death in 2022. She was a member of the Republican Party. Walorski served in the Indiana House of Representatives,representing Indiana's 21st district,from 2005 to 2010. In 2010,she won the Republican nomination for Indiana's 2nd congressional district,but narrowly lost the general election to Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly. Walorski won the seat in 2012 after Donnelly vacated it to run for the U.S. Senate,and was reelected four times.

The Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) is a high school athletic conference that was founded in 1927 and spanned from as far west as Hammond and Gary to South Bend/Mishawaka and Elkhart to the east and south to Plymouth. Since its start in 1927,a total of 32 separate schools have at one time called the NIC home. From its inception until 1963,the conference had been divided into East and West divisions. The West Division left to form the Northwestern Conference in 1963. With membership dwindling to 7 members by the 1970s,the conference added former members of the Northern Indiana Valley Conference to its ranks. Currently,every former NIVC member is now a part of the NIC except for South Bend Jackson,which closed in 1973,and South Bend LaSalle,which joined the NIC in 1977,but closed in 2001.

In the general election,the Republican nominee,Lieutenant Governor John Mutz,was defeated by Democrat Indiana Secretary of State Evan Bayh by a margin of six percentage points. Bayh was the first Democrat to be elected Governor of Indiana since Roger D. Branigin's victory during the 1964 Democratic landslides twenty-four years previously.
