Jim Tomes (born July 31,1948) is a Republican member of the Indiana Senate,representing the Senate District 49 since 2010. As one of the founders of the 2nd Amendment Patriots gun rights grassroots organization,he has served as its director since its inception in January 1999. This group is dedicated to protecting the Second Amendment,guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. He has received support from the Tea Party and is a proponent for conservative causes including smaller government,right to life and the 2nd amendment. For 33 years,he was a trucker and served as a union steward.
Tomes broke ranks with Republican leadership in the State Senate and the administration of Republican Governor Mitch Daniels to oppose the "right-to-work" legislation that became law in Indiana in 2012. [1] His legislative history shows that he is sympathetic to the anti-vaccine movement. He voted against legislation for collegiate meningitis vaccine requirements. [2] Tomes also introduced a bill in 2018 that would require schools to inform parents about vaccine exemptions which are allowed by law. [3] He voted against a bill in 2019 that would require assisted living facilities to inform residents about the seasonal influenza vaccine. [4]

Birch Evans Bayh Jr. was an American Democratic Party politician who served as U.S. Senator from Indiana from 1963 to 1981. He was first elected to office in 1954,when he won election to the Indiana House of Representatives;in 1958,he was elected Speaker,the youngest person to hold that office in the state's history. In 1962,he ran for the U.S. Senate,narrowly defeating incumbent Republican Homer E. Capehart. Shortly after entering the Senate,he became Chairman of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments,and in that role authored two constitutional amendments:the Twenty-fifth—which establishes procedures for an orderly transition of power in the case of the death,disability,or resignation of the President of the United States—and the Twenty-sixth,which lowered the voting age to 18 throughout the United States. He is the first person since James Madison and only non–Founding Father to have authored more than one constitutional amendment. Bayh also led unsuccessful efforts to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and eliminate the Electoral College.
The Civil Rights Act of 1960 is a United States federal law that established federal inspection of local voter registration polls and introduced penalties for anyone who obstructed someone's attempt to register to vote. It dealt primarily with discriminatory laws and practices in the segregated South,by which African Americans and Mexican-American Texans had been effectively disenfranchised since the late 19th and start of the 20th century. This was the fifth Civil Rights Act to be enacted in United States history. Over an 85-year period,it was preceded only by the Civil Rights Act of 1957,whose shortcomings largely influenced its creation. This law served to more effectively enforce what was set forth in the 1957 act through eliminating certain loopholes in it,and to establish additional provisions. Aside from addressing voting rights,the Civil Rights Act of 1960 also imposed criminal penalties for obstruction of court orders to limit resistance to the Supreme Court's school desegregation decisions,arranged for free education for military members' children,and banned the act of fleeing to avoid prosecution for property damage. The Civil Rights Act of 1960 was signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Karen Rae Tallian is an American politician and attorney who served as a member of the Indiana Senate for the 4th district from December 2005 through October 2021. She was re-elected in 2006,2010 and 2014. While serving in the Senate,Tallian,a progressive,has supported medicinal prescription and the decriminalization of marijuana,and has authored bills in its favor. In 2015,she announced her candidacy for governor of Indiana but dropped out that same year,well before the primary season. Tallian was also a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for Indiana Attorney General in 2020,but lost the nomination to Jonathan Weinzapfel.
Warren E. Limmer is a Minnesota politician and member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota,he represents the 34th District,which includes portions of Hennepin County in the northwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Respect for Marriage Act is a landmark United States federal law passed by the 117th United States Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden. It repeals the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA),requires the U.S. federal government and all U.S. states and territories to recognize the validity of same-sex and interracial civil marriages in the United States,and protects religious liberty. Its first version in 2009 was supported by former Republican U.S. Representative Bob Barr,the original sponsor of DOMA,and former President Bill Clinton,who signed DOMA in 1996. Iterations of the proposal were put forth in the 111th,112th,113th,114th,and 117th Congresses.
