Bloomington High School North (often referred to as BHSN or simply North) opened in the fall of 1972, is a comprehensive four-year public high school located in the northern part of Bloomington, Indiana, United States. It is part of the Monroe County Community School Corporation. The school is accredited by the Indiana State Department of Public Instruction and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Athletics

The Cougars compete in the Conference Indiana, with their main rival being the cross-town Bloomington High School South Panthers. They have won a total of 3 IHSAA Championships. [2]

Extracurricular activities

Music

North's Symphonic Band is among the most prestigious in the state, having placed in the ISSMA concert band state finalists 34 times since the championship's inception in 1985. The band has had 2 first-place victories, in 1986 and 1987. [3]

Along with Bloomington South's string orchestra, North's band forms the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic (HYP). HYP has performed nationally and internationally, including at Carnegie Hall. [4]

Jared Scott Carter Jeffries is an American former professional basketball player. Jeffries was drafted with the 11th overall pick of the 2002 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards. He also played for the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers before retiring in 2013. In college, Jeffries played for the Indiana Hoosiers; during his sophomore year, he was an integral part of the Hoosiers' Cinderella run to the 2002 NCAA Championship game, was named Big Ten Player of the Year, and was a consensus second-team All-American. At 6'11", he mainly played at both forward positions.

Sean Gregory May is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant basketball coach at the University of North Carolina. May was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. He was a three-time all-state selection at Bloomington High School North, and was at one time a teammate of former NBA player Jared Jeffries. May was named to the 2002 McDonald's High School All-American team. He played in the 2002 McDonald's game with Raymond Felton and Rashad McCants, who would later team with May to win an NCAA Championship as part of the 2004–05 North Carolina Tar Heels.

He played college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers, where he was a two-time All-American and a member of their national championship squad in 1953. After playing professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Leonard coached the Indiana Pacers to three American Basketball Association (ABA) championships. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach in 2014.

Castle High School, previously known as John H. Castle High School is a public high school located about a mile northeast of Newburgh, Indiana on Indiana 261. Castle is one of three high schools in the Warrick County School Corporation. Until 2020, it was the only non-Evansville school that played in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference as well as the largest high school in southwestern Indiana by enrollment. John Adams High School is a public high school in South Bend, Indiana.

The 1975–76 Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team represented Indiana University Bloomington and were the winners of the NCAA Men's Division I Tournament, the school's third national championship. The Hoosiers included three All-Americans and were led by head coach Bob Knight, in his fifth year, to an undefeated 32–0 record. The team played its home games in Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana, and was a member of the Big Ten Conference. They remain, as of the 2023–24 season, the last team to be undefeated National Champions.
