"Born to Be Free" is a song by Japanese rock band X Japan, released on November 6, 2015.
It reached number 21 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. [1] It topped the iTunes rock charts in France, Sweden, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Japan. [2]
Yoshiki said that he wants listeners to interpret "Born to Be Free" as a reflection of their own personal journey; "All of us are born free to dream what we want without any limits." [3] It was recorded in Los Angeles at Yoshiki's own recording studio, which was formerly known as Larrabee East, and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge. [4]
The song was first unveiled on July 1, 2010 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles during the filming of its music video, which took place following an acoustic set by the band. [5] It was played live by X Japan for the next five years.
The final recording made its debut as an audio stream, limited to 24-hours, on Metal Hammer 's website on October 13, 2015. The web-traffic caused the site to crash several times. [4] "Born to Be Free" was made available for download on November 6, [3] marking its official release. It was the second single from X Japan's unreleased album. In an interview with Metal Hammer on November 8, 2017, Yoshiki said that "Born to Be Free" was his favorite X Japan song. He said: "That's the song I really enjoy playing. A lot of songs like X, or Kurenai, were very hard for me to play. They're fast, and heavy. So when I'm playing, I'm enjoying them, but I'm also suffering at the same time. But 'Born To Be Free' makes me very happy." [7]
A music video of the band performing "Born to Be Free" in front of a live audience was filmed at Club Nokia on July 1, 2010, as mentioned above. [5] The video was directed by Yoshiki and, with cooperation of Panasonic, was shot using a new prototype 3D camera in addition to regular 2D cameras. [8] Comic book creator Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance as Satan. [9] The footage and music video have not yet been officially released.
A second music video, created using various live footage of the band and testimonials from fans, was premiered on Kerrang! 's website on November 19, 2015. [10]

X Japan is a Japanese rock band from Chiba, formed in 1982 by drummer and pianist Yoshiki and lead vocalist Toshi. Starting as a predominantly power/speed metal band with heavy symphonic elements, they later gravitated towards a progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads. Besides being one of the first Japanese acts to achieve mainstream success while on an independent label, the group is widely credited as one of the pioneers of visual kei, a movement among Japanese musicians comparable to Western glam.
Dir En Grey is a Japanese heavy metal band formed in February 1997 and currently signed to Firewall Div., a sub-division of Free-Will. With a consistent lineup of guitarists Kaoru and Die, vocalist Kyo, drummer Shinya and bassist Toshiya, they have released eleven full-length albums. Numerous stylistic changes have made the genre of their music difficult to determine, though it is generally considered to be a form of metal. Originally a visual kei band, the members later opted for more subtle attire, but have continued to maintain a dramatic image on stage.

Yoshiki Hayashi, known as Yoshiki, is a Japanese musician, songwriter, composer and record producer. He is best known as the leader and a co-founder of the visual kei rock bands X Japan and The Last Rockstars, for which he is the drummer, pianist, and main songwriter. He has been described by Billboard as a "musical innovator" and named "one of the most influential composers in Japanese history" by Consequence of Sound. Yoshiki's solo career includes several classical studio albums and collaborations with artists such as George Martin, Bono, will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson, St. Vincent, Stan Lee, Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen, Gene Simmons and KISS, Nicole Scherzinger, and Sarah Brightman.
Bullet for My Valentine, often abbreviated as BFMV, are a Welsh heavy metal band from Bridgend, formed in 1998. The band is currently composed of Matthew Tuck, Michael Paget, Jason Bowld (drums) and Jamie Mathias. Former members include Michael Thomas, Jason James and Nick Crandle; the latter were on bass. They were formed under the name Jeff Killed John and started their music career by covering songs by Metallica and Nirvana. Jeff Killed John recorded six songs which were not released; two of these tracks were reworked later in their career as Bullet for My Valentine. A change of style from that of Jeff Killed John led the band to change their name. In 2002, the band secured a five-album deal with Sony BMG. The band has stated that their music is influenced by classic metal acts such as Metallica, Iron Maiden and Slayer. The band is part of the Cardiff music scene.
Art of Life is the fourth studio album by Japanese heavy metal band X Japan, released on August 25, 1993, by Atlantic Records. The album consists solely of the 29-minute-long orchestrated title track, which was written and composed by Yoshiki entirely in English and recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It topped the Oricon chart and has sold over 600,000 copies. The album is the band's first after changing their name from simply "X" and the first to feature bassist Heath.

Dead End was a Japanese heavy metal/hard rock band formed in Tokyo in late 1984. Following the release of their debut album Dead Line in 1986, the classic lineup of vocalist Morrie, bassist Crazy Cool Joe, guitarist You and drummer Minato was solidified in May 1987. They released three more studio albums and were one of few Japanese metal bands to have international exposure in the United States during the eighties, before dissolving in 1990. Dead End reunited in 2009 after almost two decades and released the album Metamorphosis. Although he recorded the drums for the album, Minato declined to participate in the reunion beyond that. The remaining three members of the band continued to tour and record until 2015. Main composer You died unexpectedly in June 2020, and Morrie and Joe expressed doubt on having any future activity as Dead End as a result.

The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Directed by Stephen Kijak, it premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on January 23. The film covers the history of the band, their influence on Japanese music and society, the band's break up in 1997 and reunion in 2007, and their attempts to achieve success overseas. It also covers Yoshiki's childhood with the X Japan's vocalist Toshi, the suicide of Yoshiki's father when Yoshiki was ten years old, the deaths of two members of the band, and Yoshiki's various health problems.
Live at Wembley: Babymetal World Tour 2016 Kicks Off at The SSE Arena, Wembley is the second live album and fifth video album by Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. The album contains footage from the Babymetal World Tour 2016: Legend Metal Resistance and was released on November 23, 2016 in Japan by BMD Fox Records and Toy's Factory, and on December 9, 2016 in the United Kingdom by earMusic. The album features the live performance at Wembley Arena on April 2, 2016, kicking off the band's world tour.
The untitled X Japan album is an unreleased studio album by Japanese heavy metal band X Japan. Initially planned to be half new songs and half re-recordings of old songs, this was abandoned at some point in its 10 years of production in favor of all new material. Several different release dates were announced in that time, but the album remains unpublished despite drummer and bandleader Yoshiki confirming its completion in September 2018. However, several songs reported to be on it have been made commercially available digitally. If released, it will be X Japan's first album of new material in over 27 years, their first since reuniting in 2007, and their first to feature newest member Sugizo.
