"Rusty Nail" is the tenth single by Japanese heavy metal band X Japan, released on June 10, 1994.
It was written and composed by Yoshiki, later appeared on the album Dahlia , and was used as the theme song for the 1994 Japanese TV drama Kimi ga Mienai (君が見えない). [1]
A new version of "Rusty Nail" was reportedly recorded for X Japan's unreleased studio album, [2] before it was decided to create entirely new material instead.
Swedish metal band Dragonland added a cover of the song to the Japanese edition of their 2004 album Starfall . [3] Changmin of Tohoshinki covered the song during the band's fifth Japanese tour, Tone: Live Tour 2012. [4] [5] It was also covered by Inugami Circus-dan for Crush! 3 - 90's V-Rock Best Hit Cover Love Songs-, which was released on June 27, 2012 and features current visual kei bands covering love songs by visual kei artists of the 90's. Two music videos have been made for "Rusty Nail". The first is an anime version created in 1994 in collaboration with manga artists Clamp and animated by Mook Animation, that includes cartoon versions of the band members. It was included on VHS with the 1999 Perfect Best compilation album. In September 2014, the video was uploaded to Yoshiki's YouTube account. [7]
The second was released on the X Japan Showcase in L.A. Premium Prototype DVD on September 6, 2010. Directed by Aaron Platt and mainly shot as the band performed live on top of the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California in January 2010, [8] it has the sound of the audience added to the audio.
In the video game X Japan Virtual Shock 001, released for the Sega Saturn on October 20, 1995, the player edits a live video of "Rusty Nail" using footage from the Shiroi Yoru concert. [9] [10]
The song reached number 1 on the Oricon charts, and charted for 20 weeks. [11] In 1994, with 712,390 copies sold was the 28th best-selling single of the year, being certified Platinum by RIAJ, [12] is the band's second best-selling single.
Yoshiki revealed that a part of "Rusty Nail" inspired his 2018 song "Red Swan", which was a collaboration with Hyde. Its cover art, with blood dripping from a person's mouth, also inspired the cover art of the newer song. [13]

Dahlia is the fifth studio album by Japanese rock band X Japan, released on November 4, 1996, by Atlantic Records. It is the band's last album before breaking up the following year, and the last to feature new work by guitarist hide, due to his death two years later. The album is composed largely of ballads, with only a few tracks retaining the band's heavier musical traits seen on previous releases. It topped the Oricon chart and stayed on the chart for only 15 weeks, but managed to sell over half a million copies. Seven, nearly all, of the album's songs were released as singles, most of which also topped the singles chart and sold well.

Shiroi Yoru is an X Japan live DVD released on July 25, 2007. It contains the band's performance at the Tokyo Dome on December 31, 1994. A DVD containing the concert from the previous night was released on the same day, along with a limited edition, containing both concerts and additional material.

The World: X Japan Hatsu no Zensekai Best is a compilation album by X Japan, released June 17, 2014. Prior to its physical release, a digital version titled X Japan World Best became available in 111 countries via iTunes on May 21. It contains the band's hit songs from their major label career, as well as a live performance of the hide tribute song Without You for the first time. The Japanese version includes Amethyst from The Last Live. The album reached number 2 on the Oricon main chart, and was certified gold by RIAJ in 2016.
"Red Swan" is a song by Japanese musician Yoshiki, featuring vocals by Hyde. Written and produced by Yoshiki, it is the opening theme song of the first 12 episodes of the third season of the Attack on Titan anime series. The television edit of the song was published on digital platforms on July 23, 2018, while the full single version was released on October 3, 2018.
