Richard Sandoval was an American professional boxer and Lineal and WBA Bantamweight Champion. Sandoval was a silver medalist at the 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico and was a U.S. Olympian during his amateur career. He was also the younger brother of title contender Alberto Sandoval.

Bernardo José Piñango Figuera is a Venezuelan former professional boxer who competed from 1981 to 1990. He is a world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBA and The Ring bantamweight titles from 1986 to 1987 and the WBA super bantamweight title in 1988. As an amateur boxer, he won a silver medal in the bantamweight division (-54 kg) at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. In the final he lost to Cuba's Juan Hernández on points (0-5).

The bantamweight was one of five boxing weight classes contested on the boxing at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme. Like all other boxing events, it was open only to men. The boxing competitions were all held on October 27. The bantamweight was the lightest class, allowing boxers of up to 116 pounds (52.6 kg). Six boxers from two nations competed. Each NOC could enter up to 12 boxers. France entered 3 boxers, 2 of whom withdrew; Great Britain entered 5 boxers.

Hugh Russell was a Northern Irish professional boxer from the New Lodge area of Belfast who competed from 1981 to 1985. He held the British bantamweight title in 1983 and flyweight title from 1984 to 1985. As an amateur, he won bronze medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and the 1980 Summer Olympics, both in the flyweight division.

Bernard Taylor is an American former professional boxer. As an amateur, he won a gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games and a silver at the 1975 Pan American Games.

Philip Sutcliffe is an Irish politician, former boxer and two-time Olympian. He competed at the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games. Hwang Chul-soon (Korean: 황철순;) is a South Korean former boxer who competed as a bantam-weight in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Hwang lost his fourth fight, the quarter-final match, to eventual silver-medalist Charles Mooney.

Firmin Abissi is a Beninese boxer who competed in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. During the 1980 games, he was eliminated in the second round of the men's bantamweight division by Ryszard Czerwiński of Poland. During the 1984 games, Abissi was eliminated in the second round of the men's bantamweight division by Barbar Ali Khan of Pakistan.

Ray Gilbody is a British former boxer who after a successful amateur career held the British bantamweight title between 1985 and 1987, and fought for the European title twice in 1986.
