Brazil competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, United States, from July 15 to 24, 2022. The Brazilian Athletics Confederation entered 58 athletes. [1] [2]

Contents

On July 19, 2022, Alison dos Santos became the first Brazilian man to win a gold medal, with a Championship Record in men's 400 m hurdles. [3]

With 1 gold and 1 bronze medals, Brazil finished 19th in the medal table and ranked 13th in the overall placing table with a total of 34 points. [4]

Team

On July 1, 2022, the Brazilian Athletics Confederation announced a team conformed by 52 athletes (33 men and 19 women). [6] A week later, the Brazilian team was expanded to 58 athletes by adding 2 men and 4 women because of the points ranking quota. [2]

Sprinters Gabriel Garcia and Lucas Rodrigues were included in the team for the men's 4 × 100 metres relay, but finally they had no participation. In the same way, Lucas Carvalho and Maria Victoria De Sena were part of the mixed 4 × 400 metres relay team, but had no participation.

A detailed report on the results was given. Best performances were the two South American Junior records by Alonso Edward from Panamá in 10.28s in the men's 100m competition, and Jorge McFarlane from Perú who achieved 13.76s (0.0 m/s) in the first heat in 110m hurdles men.

The 2012 South American Under-23 Championships in Athletics were held in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Estádio Ícaro de Castro Melo from 22 to 23 September 2012. They were the 5th edition of the competition, organised under the supervision of the CONSUDATLE. A detailed report on the results was given. Brazilian shot putters Geisa Arcanjo who achieved 18.43m in the women's event, and Darlan Romani who achieved 19.93m in the men's event, were awarded the title for the best performance of the event.

Dos Santos is currently the South American and Pan American record holder in the competition.
