Guyana competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's seventeenth appearance at the Summer Olympics as an independent state, although it had previously represented in five other editions under the name British Guiana. Guyana joined the African-led boycott of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
Guyana competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's eighteenth appearance at the Summer Olympics as an independent state, although it had previously represented in five other editions under the name British Guiana.
