Brian Humphrey Lucas CB QHC FRSA (born 20 January 1940) is a British Anglican priest and retired military chaplain.
From 1991 to 1995, he served as Chaplain-in-Chief, and thereby head of the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch, and Archdeacon for the Royal Air Force. [1]
Lucas was born in Port Talbot, South Wales. He studied Humanities at St David's College, Lampeter (BA 1962) where he was elected college representative to the NUS and was involved in the college magazine. He then studied Theology at St Stephen's House, Oxford.
After ordination as a deacon in 1964 and as a priest in 1965, he served on the staff of Llandaff Cathedral until 1967 when he moved to the parish of Neath. At this time he became honorary Chaplain to the Neath Squadron of the Air Training Corps. He was commissioned as a chaplain in the RAF in 1970. [2]
After chaplaincies in Cornwall, Malta and East Anglia, he was Staff Chaplain to the Chaplain-in-Chief at the MOD from 1979 until 1982. Following a tour in Cyprus, he became the Senior Chaplain at the RAF College Cranwell in 1985. He was appointed Assistant Chaplain-in-Chief and Command Chaplain RAF Germany from 1987 until 1989 when he became Assistant Chaplain-in-Chief and Command Chaplain RAF Support Command.
Lucas was an Honorary Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen from 1989 to 1995.
He became Canon of Lincoln in 1991 (Emeritus from 2003) and was appointed Chaplain-in-Chief and Archdeacon to the RAF in the same year (Emeritus from 1996).
In January 1993 he was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath.
From 1996 to 2003, he was Rector of the Caythorpe Benefice in the Diocese of Lincoln; this comprised the parishes of Caythorpe, Fulbeck and Carlton Scroop with Normanton.
In 2011 he published his autobiography ("Reflections in a Chalice"), and in 2014 and 2017 two volumes on the great Gothic Cathedrals of France ("A Glimpse of Glory"). In 2020 he published a book of his selected sermons, ("Alive in Christ"). [3] [4]
Lucas is married to Joy and they have three children.

Cherry Elizabeth Vann is a British Anglican bishop serving as Bishop of Monmouth in the Church in Wales. She previously served as Archdeacon of Rochdale from 2008 to 2020, having served all of her ordained ministry with the Church of England in the Diocese of Manchester.
Raymond Jackson Pentland, is a British Church of England priest. He is a retired military chaplain, having served as Chaplain-in-Chief of the Royal Air Force and head of its Chaplains Branch from 2009 to 2014.
The Ven Folliott George Sandford was the inaugural Archdeacon of Doncaster.
The Ven. Thomas Barfett, MA was Archdeacon of Hereford and a Canon Residentiary at Hereford Cathedral from 1977 to 1982.
Thomas Maurice Hughes was an eminent Welsh Anglican priest in the second half of the twentieth century: he was Archdeacon of Margam from 1960 to 1964; and Archdeacon of Llandaff 1964 to 1969; and an Assistant Bishop of Llandaff from 1961 until 1970.
Colin Henry Williams is a British Anglican priest. Since 2015, he has served as an Archdeacon in the Diocese in Europe; he was Archdeacon of Lancaster from 1999 to 2005.

Jonathan Paul Michael Chaffey, is a British Church of England priest and former military chaplain, who served with the Royal Air Force. He serves as Archdeacon of Oxford in the same diocese; from 2014 to 2018 he served as the Chaplain-in-Chief and head of the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch. He previously served as Deputy Chaplain-in-Chief.
Anthony Robert Wright, is a retired Church of England priest. He served as Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons from 1998 to 2010. From 2005 to 2010, he was also Sub-Dean and a canon of Westminster Abbey, and Archdeacon of Westminster. In 2010, he retired and was appointed canon emeritus.
Charles Edmund Lambert was a British Anglican priest who served as Principal of the Clergy Training School and as Archdeacon of Hampstead.

Air Vice-Marshal John Raymond Ellis, is a British Anglican priest and former police officer. Between July 2018 and July 2022 he served as Chaplain-in-Chief of the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch and Archdeacon for the Royal Air Force. He had worked as a police officer and then in parish ministry in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich from 1997, before joining the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch in 2004.

Air Vice-Marshal Giles Leslie Legood, is a British Anglican priest. Since July 2022 he has served as Chaplain-in-Chief of the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch and Archdeacon for the Royal Air Force. He previously served as Deputy Chaplain-in-Chief.
