Brikama Place in Brikama Local Government Area, The Gambia

Brikama is one of the largest cities in the Gambia. It is also called 'Satey Ba' by the locals, meaning "big town". It lies southwest of the country's capital, Banjul. Brikama is the headquarters of the Brikama Local Government Area, and is the largest city in the region containing over twenty five wards with a population of over 100,000. Brikama is very rich in culture and is also a center of the Gambian music industry with many famous musicians coming from Brikama.

West Coast Division (Gambia) Administrative division of the Gambia

West Coast Region, originally the Western Division, also known as Foni or Fonyi, was one of the five administrative divisions of the Gambia. Its capital was Brikama. It was subsequently reorganised as the Brikama Local Government Area (LGA), without any change in the area covered.

Brikama is one of eight Local Government Areas in the Gambia. Its boundaries are co-extensive with the Western administrative division. The headquarters of the Brikama LGA are located at Brikama town.

Subdivisions of the Gambia

The Gambia is divided into five administrative Regions and one City. The divisions of the Gambia are created by the Independent Electoral Commission in accordance to Article 192 of the National Constitution.

The GFA League First Division is the highest division of football in The Gambia. The league began play in 1969.

Kombo North/Saint Mary is one of the nine districts of the Gambia's Brikama Local Government Area, which is located to the south of the Gambia River in the southwest of the country. Kombo North/Saint Mary is in the northwest of the LGA, between Kombo South and Kanifing LGA. It is the only district in the LGA with coasts on both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gambia River, and is the most populated district in the LGA, with 344,756 inhabitants at the 2013 Census.

The Gambian Cup is the top knockout tournament of the Gambian football. The current champion is Brikama United who won their only title in 2016. The winner competes in the Gambian Super Cup and also qualifies into the CAF Confederation Cup each season, if the national league champion also wins the FA cup then the second placed cup club competes.

Bamakuno Forest Park, or Bama Kuno, is a forest park in the Gambia. Established on January 1, 1954, it covers 1092 hectares. It is located 25 km to the south east of Brikama town in The Gambia.

Furnya Forest Park is a forest park in the Gambia. Established on January 1, 1954, it covers 405 hectares.

Brikama United Football Club is a Gambian football club located in Brikama, Gambia. It is a community football club which is owned and run by BYSA. It currently plays in GFA League First Division. It is the first club outside Banjul, the capital city, to win the GFA First Division title since the league's inception in 1969.

The Gambia College

The Gambia College is a Gambian tertiary institution with campuses located in Banjul and Brikama. Its origins lie in the Yundum Teachers Training College, which was founded in 1952 and became the Yundum College in 1955, and the Gambia School of Nursing and Midwifery, the School of Agriculture and the School of Public Health. In 1978, those hitherto separated institutions were merged by an Act of Parliament and The Gambia College was established. The new college opened in 1980 with two campuses: the School of Nursing and Midwifery is based in Banjul, whereas the Schools of Agriculture, Education, and Public Health are located in Brikama. It closed in March 1981 due to major disturbances by students but reopened in October 1982. After the Gambia College Act was passed in 1989 which required the college to provide further education, it expanded in the 1990s.

Sainey Sambou is a Gambian footballer who currently plays for Brikama United FC and the Gambia national football team. Sambou has five caps for Gambia.
