Ceremonies

Audiences who have attended Broadway show vote for their top five choices in each category, and the five most popular votes become that categories' nominee. The same people then vote from that group of five, and the final choice becomes that categories' winner. However, the nominee voting was not added until 2005, and initially, people only voted once. After the voting, the winners are announced in an online Broadway.com article, and a VIP awards ceremony and cocktail reception have been held annually since 2011 about a week afterward. Although the event is not open to the public, Broadway.com reporters film interviews with the winners, who are also photographed with their awards. However, they don't get to keep their awards just yet, as they are taken away to be engraved. They are mailed to each winner's respective theater about a week afterward.[ citation needed ]
