Brother Tode is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

An American comic book is a thin periodical originating in the United States, typically 32 pages, containing comics content. While the form originated in 1933, American comic books first gained popularity after the 1938 publication of Action Comics, which included the debut of the superhero Superman. This was followed by a superhero boom that lasted until the end of World War II. After the war, while superheroes were marginalized, the comic book industry rapidly expanded and genres such as horror, crime, science fiction and romance became popular. The 1950s saw a gradual decline, due to a shift away from print media in the wake of television and the impact of the Comics Code Authority. The late 1950s and the 1960s saw a superhero revival and superheroes remain the dominant character archetype in the 21st century.

Fictional character biography

Tode, as ruler of the Deviants, dispatched Kro to find the Celestials' cosmic beacon and destroy it. [1] He punished Kro when Kro failed to destroy the beacon, and then authorized Kro to attack New York City. [2] Tode was next seen observing a gladiatorial game between Ransak the Reject and Karkas the Mutate. There, Tode encountered Thena the Eternal. [3] Tode was in the City of Toads when the Celestial Eson caused the city to flood, although Tode's life was spared. [4]

Tode then led a successful invasion of the Eternals' city Olympia, in which Eternals were captured and imprisoned via brain mines. Tode supervised the distillation of the Eternals' immortality, and consumed the energy of the discorporated Eternals in an attempt to gain immortality. His plan was thwarted by Iron Man II and the Eternals. [5]

It was later revealed that Tode, along with the other Deviants in the City of Toads when the Eternals defeated them, was transformed by the Eternals by molecular rearrangement into a large organic cube which was then lowered into Olympia's foundation. [6] The block of transmuted Deviants was then towed by the Eternal Uni-Mind into space. [7]

Powers and abilities

Tode has no superhuman powers. In fact, due to the size of his head, his mobility is limited and he must rely on his bearers. He does possess great leadership capacity, however.
