Buket Bengisu and Group Safir

Buket Bengisu (born 19 September 1978) [1] is a Turkish singer. She finished her primary studies in Istanbul. She grew up in a family that was closely associated with music, as her father was a bassist and her mother was a pianist. In 1996, she enrolled in the Istanbul University State Conservatory, studying chorus singing. In 2000, she went to the same school again and in 2003 graduated with a degree in musical singing. She also played for five years at the Turkey Children Theater and took part in a number of plays. [1]

In 2002, together with Grup Safir she took part in a competition for representing Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 and performed the song "Leylaklar Soldu Kalbinde", earning the permission to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002. [2] The other members were Eser Alioğlu, Dilek Aba, Gülnur Gökçe and Sitare Bilge. At the contest, they earned 29 points and ended up in the 16th place. [3] [4]

In 2011, Bengisu won the Special prize of jury WAFA Awards at the "Golden Voice Moldova" Festival, followed by Award of Most Promising Performer and Award for best lyrics at the "XX.International Discovery Pop Music", and the Best Song award at the Award of Bulgarian National Radio. [5] Bengisu also organized a "Eurovision From Past to Present" concert in 2011. [4]

Turkey has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 34 times since its debut in 1975. The Turkish participant broadcaster in the contest is Türkiye Radyo ve Televizyon Kurumu (TRT). Turkey won the contest once in 2003, and hosted the 2004 contest in Istanbul. Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Turkey has only failed to qualify for the final once, in 2011.

Hadise Açıkgöz is a Belgian-born Turkish singer, songwriter, dancer and television personality. Born and raised in Belgium, her family is of Lezgin-Kumyk origin who settled in Sivas, Turkey. In 2003, she participated in the Belgian singing competition show Idool 2003, but rose to fame after releasing her debut album Sweat in 2005. The album spawned 5 singles and earned Hadise both a TMF Award (Belgium) and Golden Butterfly Award (Turkey). Hadise established and maintained a successful career in both Belgium and Turkey with the release of her self-titled album Hadise (2008). The album, which includes English and Turkish songs, features the single "Deli Oğlan" that became a number-one hit in Turkey.

Julie Ann Zahra is a Maltese politician and singer who represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2004. As part of the duo "Julie & Ludwig", their song On Again... Off Again qualified for the final and came 12th out of 36 countries competing. Zahra was also the spokesperson for Malta at the 2015 Contest.

Greece won the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, its first Eurovision Song Contest victory. Greek national broadcaster Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) internally selected Helena Paparizou who sang "My Number One" in Kyiv, winning the competition with 230 points. The song is written by Christos Dantis, Natalia Germanou and Manos Psaltakis. "My Number One" was selected through a national final on 2 March 2005, where the public and a professional jury chose it over three other candidate songs.

Germany was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "Can't Wait Until Tonight", written by Stefan Raab, and performed by Max. The German participating broadcaster on behalf of ARD, Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), organised the national final Germany 12 Points! in order to select their entry for the contest. The national final took place on 19 March 2004 and featured ten competing acts with the winner being selected through two rounds of public televoting. "Can't Wait Until Tonight" performed by Max was selected as the German entry after placing first in the top two during the first round of voting and ultimately gaining 853,688 votes in the second round.

Gee opened for vocalist Tony Bennett and his orchestra after being the featured vocalist on various albums throughout her teen years. In 2007 Gee co-wrote and performed "Fate" on DJ Schiller's album Sehnsucht. The album went triple platinum and was nominated for a Grammy. She released her solo EP Christmas Angel in 2009. On November 27, 2014, Tamara released a new highly anticipated album "Love, Tamara" of which she wrote with and was produced by Multi Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter Walter Afanasieff.

Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Russian broadcaster Russia-1, owned by the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Sofia Fisenko won the national final on 16 August 2016 with the song "Zhivaya voda". On 6 October, the Russian organisation team opted to change the name of the entrant to Water of Life Project, with the song also changing to "Water of Life".
