Bump is an Australian comedy-drama television series created by Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro which premiered on Stan on 1 January 2021. [1] Set in and around an inner city high school, the series centres around Oly, an ambitious and high-achieving teenage girl who has a surprise baby and the complications that ensue for two families. [2] The ten-part first series was produced by Roadshow Rough Diamond.
Season two premiered on 26 December 2021 and season three premiered on 26 December 2022. A spin-off series set in the same universe, Year Of, was released on 9 June 2023. [3] Season 4 of Bump went into production in July 2023 [4] and was released on 26 December 2023. [5]
Season 5 of Bump was announced on 12 March 2024. [6] Bump has since become Stan Australia's longest running local drama.

The series was co-created by Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro, who also co-wrote with a writing team of Jessica Tuckwell, Timothy Lee, Mithila Gupta and Steven Arriagada. Karvan produced along with John Edwards and Dan Edwards. Geoff Bennett, Gracie Otto and Leticia Cáceres directed the series. [2]
In January 2021 the series was renewed for a second season. In July it was confirmed that production on season 2 was underway in Sydney and that a third season had also been confirmed. [8] [9] [10] On 25 November 2021 a trailer for season 2 was released along with an announcement that the season was scheduled to be released on 26 December 2021. [7]
A fourth season was commissioned in July 2023, with a fifth season being announced in March 2024.
The school scenes are filmed on and around Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay Campus.
On 18 June 2021, Canada's CBC premiered the first season of Bump on its CBC Gem streaming service, [11] adding the second season on 29 July 2022. [12] In the United Kingdom, the series began airing on BBC One on 20 October 2021, [13] and also was made available on the BBC iPlayer streaming service. The second season debuted on 17 June 2022. The third season debuted in May 2023.[ citation needed ]
In March 2022, the series was picked by The CW in the United States; it premiered on 11 August 2022. [14] [15] The network however removed it from its schedule after broadcasting five episodes of the second season in September 2023. [16]
Claudia Karvan is an Australian actress and producer. As a child actor, she first appeared in the film Molly (1983) and followed with an adolescent role in High Tide (1987). She portrayed a teacher in The Heartbreak Kid (1993) – the film was spun off into a TV series, Heartbreak High (1994–1999), with her character taken over by Sarah Lambert. Karvan's roles in television series include The Secret Life of Us (2001–2005), Love My Way (2004–2007), Newton's Law (2017) and Halifax: Retribution (2020). She won Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Television Drama at the AFI Awards for her appearance in G.P. (1996). She won two similar AFI Awards for her role in Love My Way and in 2014 for her work in The Time of Our Lives (2013–2014). As a co-producer and co-writer on Love My Way, she won three further AFI Awards for Best Drama Series in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Karvan was inducted into the Australian Film Walk of Fame in 2007 in acknowledgment of her contributions to the Australian film and television industry. From 2010 to 2011, she starred in the drama series Spirited, which she co-created and was executive producer. She appeared as Judy Vickers in Puberty Blues. Karvan has co-produced House of Hancock and Doctor Doctor (2016–2021). In 2021 she co-created, co-produced and starred in the TV drama series, Bump.

Catherine McClements is an Australian stage, film and television actress and television presenter. She is known for her TV roles in Water Rats and Tangle, for which she won Logie Awards, and has performed in stage productions for theatre companies such as Belvoir St Theatre, the Melbourne Theatre Company, the Sydney Theatre Company and the State Theatre Company of South Australia.
Scott Ian Major is an Australian actor and TV and film director, known for his roles as Peter Rivers in the 1994 television teen drama series Heartbreak High and Lucas Fitzgerald in soap opera Neighbours. After leaving Neighbours in 2013, Major returned to direct over 200 episodes of the serial. He has since gone on to direct episodes of Playing for Keeps, and two miniseries Lie With Me and Riptide. Major reprised his role as Rivers in the 2022 reboot of Heartbreak High.
