Bump is an Australian comedy-drama television series created by Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro, which premiered on Stan on 1 January 2021. The story centres around a high-achieving teenage girl and her boyfriend, both still at school, who have a surprise baby, and the complications that ensue for them, their extended families, and friends.
Season 2 premiered on 26 December 2021 and season 3 on 26 December 2022. A spin-off series set in the same universe, Year Of, was released on 9 June 2023. Season 4 was released on 26 December 2023 and Season 5 was announced on 12 March 2024. The fifth and final season was released on 26 December 2024.
Set in and around an inner city high school, the ten-part first series centres around Oly, an ambitious and high-achieving teenage girl who has a surprise baby, and the complications that ensue for two families. [1]

The series was co-created by Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro, who also co-wrote with a writing team of Jessica Tuckwell, Timothy Lee, Mithila Gupta, and Steven Arriagada. Karvan produced the series along with John Edwards and Dan Edwards. Geoff Bennett, Gracie Otto, and Leticia Cáceres directed the series. [1] [3]
The first season of the series had to adhere to strict COVID-19 protocols, as it was shot in 2020. [4]
The series ran for five seasons, carrying loyal fans with it and ending, as planned, on the creators' own terms. Nathalie Morris, who plays the lead role of Oly in the series, makes her screenwriting debut in season 5. [5]
Bump premiered on Stan on 1 January 2021. [4] In July 2021 it was confirmed that production on season 2 was under way in Sydney and that a third season had also been confirmed. [6] [7] [8] On 25 November 2021 a trailer for season 2 was released along with an announcement that the season was scheduled to be released on 26 December 2021. [2]
Season 3 premiered on 26 December 2022. A spin-off series set in the same universe, Year Of, was released on 9 June 2023. [9]
Season 4 of Bump went into production in July 2023 [10] and was released on 26 December 2023. [11]
It was renewed for a fifth season on 12 March 2024. [12] Production for that season commenced in July 2024 as the final season [13] and was released on 26 December 2024. [14] [5]
On 18 June 2021, Canada's CBC premiered the first season of Bump on its CBC Gem streaming service, [15] adding the second season on 29 July 2022. [16] In the United Kingdom, the series began airing on BBC One on 20 October 2021. [17]
In March 2022, the series was picked by The CW in the United States, premiering on 11 August 2022. [18] [19] The network however removed it from its schedule after broadcasting five episodes of the second season in September 2023. [20]
Claudia Karvan is an Australian actress and producer. As a child actor, she first appeared in the film Molly (1983) and followed with an adolescent role in High Tide (1987). She portrayed a teacher in The Heartbreak Kid (1993) – the film was spun off into a TV series, Heartbreak High (1994–1999), with her character taken over by Sarah Lambert. Karvan's roles in television series include The Secret Life of Us (2001–2005), Love My Way (2004–2007), Newton's Law (2017) and Halifax: Retribution (2020). She won Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Television Drama at the AFI Awards for her appearance in G.P. (1996). She won two similar AFI Awards for her role in Love My Way and in 2014 for her work in The Time of Our Lives (2013–2014). As a co-producer and co-writer on Love My Way, she won three further AFI Awards for Best Drama Series in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Karvan was inducted into the Australian Film Walk of Fame in 2007 in acknowledgment of her contributions to the Australian film and television industry. From 2010 to 2011, she starred in the drama series Spirited, which she co-created and was executive producer. She appeared as Judy Vickers in Puberty Blues. Karvan has co-produced House of Hancock and Doctor Doctor (2016–2021). In 2021 she co-created, co-produced and starred in the TV drama series, Bump.
Phoebe Jane Elizabeth Tonkin (born 12 July 1989) is an Australian actress. Born and raised in Sydney, she began her career on Australian television and had her breakthrough playing Cleo Sertori in the Network Ten fantasy series H2O: Just Add Water (2006–2010), for which she received acclaim and was nominated for the AACTA Award for Best Actress. Tonkin made her film debut as Fiona Maxwell in Stuart Beattie's apocalyptic war film Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010). After starring in the horror film Bait 3D (2012), she relocated to America, where she received acclaim for her roles as Faye Chamberlain in the CW supernatural drama series The Secret Circle (2011–2012) and Hayley Marshall in The Vampire Diaries (2012–2013) and The Originals (2013–2018).
