The Business Association of Stanford Entrepreneurial Students (BASES) is a student group at Stanford University focusing on business and entrepreneurial activities. One of the largest student-run entrepreneurship organizations in the world, BASES' mission is to promote entrepreneurship education at Stanford University and to empower student entrepreneurs by bringing together the worlds of entrepreneurship, academia, and industry. BASES organizes the flagship 150K Challenge, Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders' Seminar, the SVI Hackspace, E-Bootcamp, and the Freshman Battalion. [1] [2]

BASES was founded in 1996 by a group of five Stanford engineers. The organization works in partnership with Silicon Valley's venture capitalists and law firms to provide a variety of entrepreneurial services to Stanford students. [3]

Competitions

BASES hosts two annual business plan competitions, one catering to for-profit startups (E-Challenge) and the other for social ventures (Social E-Challenge). It hosts a third, concurrent product showcase competition for product prototypes. A total of $150,000 is awarded each year in these competitions. Entirely student-managed, the competition attracts students from all programs and levels at Stanford. Teams must include at least one full-time Stanford student, but participation is not restricted to the Stanford community. Past winners include: [4] [5]

Entrepreneurship bootcamp

BASES hosts a five-day conference for 100 students at Stanford University. E-Bootcamp includes pitching and design workshops, marketing initiatives, media rundowns, sector-specific critiquing and mentoring sessions with industry leaders. Attendees present their business plans and products in a competitive environment, including a product showcase and pitch competition, attended by investors. The four top-performing entrepreneurs receive a prize. E-Bootcamp is partnered with Sequoia Capital and New Enterprise Associates.

Speaker series

Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders is a class in the Management Science and Engineering department jointly hosted by BASES, the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), and the Stanford Center for Professional Development. The weekly lecture series exposes Stanford students to insights from entrepreneurs, investors, CEOs, and innovators from Silicon Valley. [7] Guest speakers in the past have included Larry Page, John Doerr, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Ballmer. [8]

University of San Francisco International Business Plan Competition has been held each year from 2004 to 2009 involving teams of students presenting a business plan to judges. A cash prize is awarded to the winning team.

The Yale Entrepreneurial Society (YES) is a student-run nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to encouraging entrepreneurship and business development in the New Haven, Connecticut area. YES was founded in 1999 by Yale undergraduates Sean Glass and Miles Lasater. Its social entrepreneurship program—focused on not-for-profit and socially responsible organizations—was founded the same year, with efforts led by fellow student David Pozen. Today, YES members include Yale undergraduate, graduate, professional students, and faculty, as well as several hundred Yale alumni around the world.

Jerry Colonna (financier) American venture capitalist

Jerry Colonna is an American venture capitalist and professional coach who played a prominent part in the early development of Silicon Valley. He is the recipient of numerous awards and a speaker on topics ranging from leadership to starting businesses. Colonna has been named to Upside magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People of the New Economy, Forbes ASAP's list of the best VCs in the country, and Worth's list of the 25 most generous young Americans. He is a co-founder and CEO of the executive coaching and leadership development company, Reboot. He is the host of the Reboot Podcast. He also serves as chairman on the Board of Trustees at Naropa University. Colonna is the author of Reboot: Leadership and the Art of Growing Up.

Steve Blank

Steve Blank is an American entrepreneur, educator, author and speaker based in Pescadero, California.

The Edinburgh Stanford Link is a £6 million, 5 year initiative funded by Scottish Enterprise to foster collaborative research and commercialisation links between the Human Communication Research Centre at the University of Edinburgh and the Center for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University. Starting in Feb 2002, the programme focuses on speech and language processing technology. There are two core parts to the Link, the commercial programme and the student programme. The former focuses on working with commercial companies and the latter focuses on fostering a culture of entrepreneurship within the University of Edinburgh. They are located in Level 8 in Appleton Tower, Crichton Street, Edinburgh.

Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) Entrepreneurship Corner (ECorner) is a free online archive of entrepreneurship resources for teaching and learning. The purpose of the project is to support and encourage faculty around the world who teach entrepreneurship to future scientists, engineers, managers, and others. The site has been developed by a team of educators, entrepreneurs, engineers and designers at the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP). The project has been financially supported by Stanford University and a number of sponsors. Other collaborators in its creation include the Stanford Center for Professional Development and Stanford Video.

Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur (E-Cell) is a non-profit student’s organization dedicated to promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship among students throughout India. Established in 2006 under the aegis of STEP, IIT Kharagpur, E-Cell has since been involved in more than 70 startup companies in the initial stages of their existence. It is a student body under Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship (RMSOEE), IIT Kharagpur and has taken up various initiatives to promote new ventures by students of IIT Kharagpur and students across the country.

Faysal Sohail American businessman

Faysal A. Sohail is an American venture capitalist and Managing Director at Presidio Partners in San Francisco. Sohail was a co-founder of Silicon Architects and on the founding team of Actel Corporation, two influential companies in the computer chip industry. Sohail serves as Vice Chair of the Board of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. He is also Co-Founder and Chief Executive of InoBat Auto, a European electric vehicle battery producer.

Founder.org is a nonprofit foundation in San Francisco, California, United States that invests in student entrepreneurs. The organization features a company building program for student entrepreneurs at major research institutes and universities. Operated by a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, Founder.org supports teams across various industries including sensors, sanitation, influencer marketing, biotechnology, health and transportation.

The Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Bombay

The Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Bombay, also known as E-Cell, IIT Bombay, is the primary entrepreneurship promoting body of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, managed and run completely by the students of the institute. It organizes initiatives like the annual business plan competition Eureka! and the flagship event, The Entrepreneurship Summit (E-Summit) in January each year, which receives a footfall of over 30,000 people who include sudents, investors, corporates, mentors, celebrities and the most important; Entrepreneurs.

Defy Ventures is a United States-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2010 by Catherine Hoke. The organization's goal is to address the social problems of mass incarceration, recidivism, and related issues by providing well-being, entrepreneurship, employment, and personal development training programs to individuals with criminal histories.

Clusters of Innovations (COI) have been defined in 2015 as "global economic hot spots where new technologies germinate at an astounding rate and where pools of capital, expertise, and talent foster the development of new industries and new ways of doing business."

Global Entrepreneurship Summit International event for entrepreneurship

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit is an annual event organized by the federal government of the United States, in partnership with foreign government hosts. The summit originated from an event organized by the Obama Administration called the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, which was held in April 2010 in Washington, D.C. It brought together entrepreneurs from the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia to discuss the importance of social and economic entrepreneurship, establish entrepreneurship as an important area of policy focus, and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships between entrepreneurs.
