The Business Association of Stanford Entrepreneurial Students (BASES) is a student group at Stanford University focusing on business and entrepreneurial activities. One of the largest student-run entrepreneurship organizations in the world, BASES' mission is to promote entrepreneurship education at Stanford University and to empower student entrepreneurs by bringing together the worlds of entrepreneurship, academia, and industry. BASES organizes the flagship 150K Challenge, Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders' Seminar, the SVI Hackspace, E-Bootcamp, and the Freshman Battalion. [1] [2]

BASES was founded in 1996 by a group of five Stanford engineers. The organization works in partnership with Silicon Valley's venture capitalists and law firms to provide a variety of entrepreneurial services to Stanford students. [3]

Competitions

BASES hosts two annual business plan competitions, one catering to for-profit startups (E-Challenge) and the other for social ventures (Social E-Challenge). It hosts a third, concurrent product showcase competition for product prototypes. A total of $150,000 is awarded each year in these competitions. Entirely student-managed, the competition attracts students from all programs and levels at Stanford. Teams must include at least one full-time Stanford student, but participation is not restricted to the Stanford community. Past winners include: [4] [5]

Entrepreneurship bootcamp

BASES hosts a five-day conference for 100 students at Stanford University. E-Bootcamp includes pitching and design workshops, marketing initiatives, media rundowns, sector-specific critiquing and mentoring sessions with industry leaders. Attendees present their business plans and products in a competitive environment, including a product showcase and pitch competition, attended by investors. The four top-performing entrepreneurs receive a prize. E-Bootcamp is partnered with Sequoia Capital and New Enterprise Associates.

Speaker series

Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders is a class in the Management Science and Engineering department jointly hosted by BASES, the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), and the Stanford Center for Professional Development. The weekly lecture series exposes Stanford students to insights from entrepreneurs, investors, CEOs, and innovators from Silicon Valley. [8] Guest speakers in the past have included Larry Page, John Doerr, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Ballmer. [9]

While entrepreneurship includes all new businesses including self-employment and businesses that do not intend to go public, startups are new businesses that intend to grow large beyond the solo-founder. NBIA categorizes its members' incubators by the following five incubator types: academic institutions; non-profit development corporations; for-profit property development ventures; venture capital firms, and a combination of the above.

Entrepreneurship education sets to provide students with the knowledge, skills and motivation to encourage entrepreneurial success in a variety of settings.

The Yale Entrepreneurial Society (YES) is a student-run nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to encouraging entrepreneurship and business development in the New Haven, Connecticut area. YES was founded in 1999 by Yale undergraduates Sean Glass and Miles Lasater. Its social entrepreneurship program—focused on not-for-profit and socially responsible organizations—was founded the same year, with efforts led by fellow student David Pozen. Today, YES members include Yale undergraduate, graduate, professional students, and faculty, as well as several hundred Yale alumni around the world.

Steve Blank is an American entrepreneur, educator, author and speaker. He created the customer development method that launched the lean startup movement. His work has influenced modern entrepreneurship through the creation of tools and processes for new ventures which differ from those used in large companies.

The Edinburgh Stanford Link is a £6 million, five year initiative funded by Scottish Enterprise to foster collaborative research and commercialisation links between the Human Communication Research Centre at the University of Edinburgh and the Center for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University. Starting in February 2002, the programme focuses on speech and language processing technology. There are two core parts to the Link, the commercial programme and the student programme. The former focuses on working with commercial companies and the latter focuses on fostering a culture of entrepreneurship within the University of Edinburgh. YouNoodle, Inc. is a San Francisco-based company, with offices in Barcelona and Santiago, founded in 2010, building a platform for entrepreneurship competitions all over the world. YouNoodle matches entrepreneurs with competitions, accelerators, and startup programs, and provides a judging and voting SaaS platform to university, non-profit, government and enterprise clients organizing innovation challenges and competitions. Stanford's BASES, UC Berkeley LAUNCH, Start-Up Chile, Amazon Startup Challenge, and NASA are all running one or more competitions on YouNoodle's platform.

Impact Entrepreneurship Group is a Canadian non-profit youth-run organization. Founded in 2004, it aims to foster and develop entrepreneurship among university and high school students. It has offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Waterloo, Ontario.

Founder.org is a nonprofit foundation in San Francisco, California, United States that invests in student entrepreneurs. The organization features a company building program for student entrepreneurs at major research institutes and universities. Operated by a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, Founder.org supports teams across various industries including sensors, sanitation, influencer marketing, biotechnology, health and transportation.

The Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Bombay, also known as E-Cell, IIT Bombay, is the primary entrepreneurship promoting body of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, managed and run completely by the students of the institute. It organizes initiatives like the annual business plan competition Eureka! and the flagship event, The Entrepreneurship Summit (E-Summit) in January each year, which receives a footfall of over 30,000 people who include students, investors, corporates, mentors, celebrities and the most important; Entrepreneurs.

The Global Innovation through Science and Technology initiative (GIST) is a U.S. government program on innovation and entrepreneurship. The program assists business people in establishing startups. GIST participants in 135 emerging economies can develop skills, build networks, find mentors, and access financing through a combination of in-country training, a pitch competition, interactive online programming, and direct connections to U.S. experts. GIST helps create conditions for successful local entrepreneurship ecosystems and enables global youth to develop local solutions to local problems. GIST is also one of the key programs under President Obama's SPARK Initiative, an initiative under which programs are selected to represent the best work being done by the U.S. Government to advance entrepreneurship around the world.

Defy Ventures is a United States-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2010 by Catherine Hoke. The organization's goal is to address the social problems of mass incarceration, recidivism, and related issues by providing training programmes to individuals with criminal histories, with the aim of improving their well-being, encouraging entrepreneurship, facilitating employment, and promoting personal development.

Mukesh Bansal is an Indian entrepreneur known for his contributions to the e-commerce, health-tech, and startup ecosystems. He is the co-founder of Myntra, Cult.Fit, and Meraki Labs, and has played a significant role in shaping India's tech and entrepreneurial landscape. Mukesh has been listed in the Best 40 under 40 Entrepreneurs by Fortune Magazine.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Global Entrepreneurship Summit</span> International event for entrepreneurship

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit is an annual event organized by the federal government of the United States, in partnership with foreign government hosts. The summit originated from an event organized by the Obama Administration called the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, which was held in April 2010 in Washington, D.C. It brought together entrepreneurs from the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia to discuss the importance of social and economic entrepreneurship, establish entrepreneurship as an important area of policy focus, and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships between entrepreneurs.

Konstantin Dolgan is a Kazakh-American businessman. He is the co-founder and CEO of LA New Product Development Team, a product design and prototyping company. Dolgan additionally co-founded the company Grapheno, a producer of graphene-based conductive coating for electronics, as a side-venture of LA NPDT, co-founded QMS2Go, a provider of AI-powered quality management system tools, and is the co-author of Realizr, a product ideation guidebook. He was featured as one of ForbesThe Next 1000 upcoming American entrepreneurs in 2021.
