José Gutiérrez Hernández, better known by his ring name Último Guerrero, is a Mexican luchador, who works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). He is not related to the lucha libre legend Gory Guerrero or any of his children; "Guerrero" in this case is the Spanish word for warrior and not the surname of the character. On September 19, 2014, Último Guerrero lost a Lucha de Apuestas match to Atlantis, after which he was forced to unmask and reveal his birth name.
Jorge Luis Casas Ruiz, better known by his ring name El Felino, is a Mexican luchador working for Mexican wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Casas started his professional wrestling career under the name Babe Casas, working for the Universal Wrestling Association (UWA). In 1989, he adopted the "Felino" ring character, wearing an orange full body suit and cat inspired mask. With the exception of a short stint in AAA in 1999, Casas has worked for CMLL since adopting the "El Felino" ring character. El Felino was originally an enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler, but was forced to unmask in March 2010 due to losing a match.
Ramón Ibarra Rivera, better known by his ring name Volador Jr., is a Mexican luchador, who works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). He portrays a técnico wrestling character and is considered one of the top level técnicos in the promotion. He is the son of Super Parka, and his ring name refers to his father's previous gimmick, Volador. Ibarra is the nephew of the original La Parka, the cousin of El Hijo de L.A. Park and the uncle of Flyer; he is also related to a number of other luchadors in the Ibarra family.
La Peste Negra was a Mexican lucha librerudo (villainous) stable in the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) promotion. The core of the group is the Casas wrestling family, which includes members Negro Casas and El Felino and former members Heavy Metal and Princesa Blanca. The group is rounded out by Mr. Niebla and rookies Bárbaro Cavernario and Herodes, Jr. The group was founded in July 2008 when Mr. Niebla returned to CMLL after working for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA). The group has consistently been used at the main event and semi-main event level in CMLL. Their motto is "be heinous and stinky"
Sin Piedad (2011) was an annual professional wrestling major event produced by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), which took place on December 16, 2011, in Arena México, Mexico City, Mexico and replaced CMLL's regular Friday night show Super Viernes. The 2011 Sin Piedad was the tenth event under that name that CMLL promoted as their last major show of the year, always held in December. The main event of the show centered around a long running storyline between Blue Panther and the Casas wrestling family, represented by El Felino in this instance. The two wrestled in a Lucha de Apuesta, hair vs. hair match where the loser of the match would be forced to have all his hair shaved off. The show featured four two out of three falls six-man tag team match and one tag team match with representatives from CMLL's Mini-Estrella division.

The event commemorated the 81st anniversary of the creation of CMLL, which is the oldest professional wrestling promotion in the world. CMLL's anniversary show is their biggest, most important show of the year, comparable to the Super Bowl for the National Football League or WrestleMania for World Wrestling Entertainment. The CMLL Anniversary Show series is the longest-running annual professional wrestling show, starting in 1934.

On September 19 they replaced the regular Friday night show with their 81st Anniversary Show, CMLL's biggest show of the year and the culmination of a number of storylines built up in the previous weeks or months. Some of the matches from Super Viernes are taped for CMLL's weekly shows that air on television in Mexico in the following week. The first two Super Viernes shows focused primarily on the build towards the 81st Anniversary show, especially the Lucha de Apuestas, mask vs. mask match main event of the show between Atlantis and Último Guerrero that would be the culmination of a storyline years in the making. It was also used to feature a quickly escalating storyline between Rey Cometa and Cavernario, leading up to one of the featured matches at the Anniversary Show. The post anniversary Super Viernes show featured the first round of the La Copa Junior VIP tournament, the second such tournament of 2014, this time featuring higher ranking wrestlers than the January 1, 2014 version. The tournament would continue into October 2014.

Some of the matches from Super Viernes were taped for CMLL's weekly shows that air on television in Mexico in the following week. The first and second Super Viernes show in October featured the first and final rounds of the La Copa Junior VIP tournament, the second such tournament of 2014, which featured higher ranking wrestlers than the January 1, 2014 version. In the end Máximo defeated Mephisto to win the tournament. The October 31st Super Viernes saw the return of L.A. Park, who had not worked for CMLL since 2008, along with his son El Hijo de L.A. Park.
Infierno en el Ring (2014) was a major professional wrestling event produced by the Mexican lucha libre promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and took place on Friday December 5, 2014 in Arena México, Mexico City, Mexico. The show replaced CMLL's regularly scheduled CMLL Super Viernes show as is tradition with most of CMLL's signature events. The 2014 even marked the sixth time CMLL has held a show under that name with previous shows in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Each of the shows have been main evented by a multi-man steel cage match, contested under Lucha de Apuestas, or bet match rules referred to as Infierno en el Ring. According to the rules the loser of the match, the last person to remain in the cage, will be forced to have his hair shaved off per Lucha Libre traditions. The event itself was announced on November 14. Five days later CMLL announced the 10 wrestlers competing in the main event; Blue Panther, El Felino, Shocker, El Terrible, Rey Bucanero, Máximo, Bárbaro Cavernario, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr. and Marco Corleone. The show featured an additional four matches.

The Super Viernes events featured a varying number of professional wrestling matches, in which some wrestlers were involved in pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines and others were teamed up with no storyline reason as such. Wrestlers themselves portrayed either villains or fan favorites as they competed in matches with pre-determined outcomes that is not known to the general public ahead of time.
The CMLL Torneo Nacional de Parejas Increíbles 2015 or "National Incredible Pairs Tournament 2015" was a Lucha Libre or professional wrestling, tournaments for Tag Teams held by the Mexican wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). The tournament was based on the Lucha Libre Parejas Increíbles match concept where two wrestlers of opposite allegiance, portraying either villains, referred to as "Rudos" in Lucha Libre wrestling terminology or fan favorites, or "tecnicos". At times some of the team members were part of a pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines with each other. The tournament was won by rivals Máximo and El Terrible, who at the time of the tournament had already signed a contract to face off in a Luchas de Apuestas at the upcoming 2015 Homenaje a Dos Leyendas. The 2015 version of the tournament was the sixth overall time CMLL has held such a tournament, starting in 2010 and always held early in the year.
Homenaje a Dos Leyendas (2015) was a professional wrestling supercard show event, scripted and produced by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. The Dos Leyendas show took place on March 20, 2015 in CMLL's main venue, Arena México, Mexico City, Mexico. The event was to honor and remember CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth, who died in March 1987. Starting in 1999 CMLL honored not just their founder during the show, but also a second lucha libre legend, making it their version of a Hall of Fame event. For the 2015 show CMLL commemorated the life and career of wrestler El Faraón. This was the 17th March show held under the Homenaje a Dos Leyendas name, having previously been known as Homenaje a Salvador Lutteroth from 1996 to 1998. The 2015 Dos Leyendas show was broadcast live in 60 Cinépolis theaters in Mexico, which was the first time this format was offered in Mexico.
TRT: La Máquina de la Destrucción was a Mexican Lucha Libre group, also known as a "stable" in wrestling terms, that has been active in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) since April, 2011. The group consisted of El Texano, Rey Bucanero and Vangelis. The group was originally known as La Fuerza TRT consisting of El Terrible, Rey Bucanero and El Texano, Jr. In 2013 the group was briefly billed as Bullet Club Latinoamerica when El Terrible and Rey Bucanero teamed up with New Japan Pro-Wrestling Bullet Club member Tama Tonga. For a while Tiger was a member of the group but was kicked out in 2013. The group has always worked as Rudos and often in the main event of some of CMLL's major shows.

The show is the biggest show of the year for CMLL, considered their version of the Super Bowl or WrestleMania. The CMLL Anniversary Show is the longest-running annual professional wrestling shows.

The 2017 version of the tournament was the eight time in a row that CMLL held the tournament since the first tournament in 2010. The winners are presented with a trophy but not given any other tangible reward for the victory.
