The CVV 7 Pinocchio was a single seat competition glider designed and built in Italy, first flown in 1952 though designed in 1940. Only one was built.

Design and development

The Pinocchio was designed at the Centro Volo a Vela (CVV), or Experimental Soaring Centre, of the Royal Polytechnic of Milan by Gildo Preti in 1940 and its construction was started but then interrupted by World War II. In 1946 students began its completion, though it was not finished until 1951 and first flew in April 1952 at Linate, piloted by Riccardo Brigliadori. [1]

For an all wood aircraft the Pinocchio had a high aspect ratio wing, cantilevered, straight tapered on both edges and with semi-elliptical tips. This was built around a single spar with a plywood skinned D-box ahead of it and fabric covering behind. Ailerons reached from the tips to about half span and inboard of them there were airbrakes, mounted at mid-chord, which extended above and below the wings. [1]

The Pinocchio was a high wing aircraft, with the wing mounted on top of the rear fuselage. This was slender, circular in cross section and plywood skinned. The cockpit, with a frameless canopy, was placed immediately ahead of the wing leading edge, its top level with the wing's upper surface. Without a landing skid, the Pinocchio landed on a retractable, sprung monowheel and tail bumper. Its horizontal tail was mounted on top of the fuselage, far enough forward to place the trailing edges of the fabric covered elevators at the rudder hinge. The fin was straight edged and small but the rudder was full, curved and balanced. [1]

Only one Pinocchio was built. [1]

The CVV1 Pinguino was a single seat, high performance glider designed and built in Italy in the mid-1930s, the first of a series of gliders from the Milan Polytechnic. It did not go into production.

The CVV 2 Asiago is a simple, single seat glider designed and built in Italy in the mid-1930s, the second of a series of gliders from the Milan Polytechnic and the first go into production.

The CVV 3 Arcore was a single seat competition glider designed and built in Italy in the late 1930s, a development of the CVV 1 Pinguino. It participated in several national gliding competitions in the short period before the outbreak of World War II.

The CVV 5 Papero was a single seat competition glider designed and built in Italy in the late 1930s, a development of the CVV 4 Pellicano.

CVV 8 Bonaventura

The CVV 8 Bonaventura was a two-seat competition glider designed and built in Italy during the 1950s. Fifteen were produced.

The Aeronautica Lombarda AL-3 was an Italian sailplane, designed and built in 1939 to take part in the Olympic sailplane competition. It did so but was not successful.

The Tedeschi E.T.186 was a simple, single seat training glider built in Italy and first flown in 1947. Only one was constructed.

The Pagliani Vittoria was a single-seat glider built in Italy during Second World War. Only one was constructed.

The CVT1 Zigilo was a single-seat, 12-metre-span (39 ft) Italian training glider designed and built in Italy in the 1950s. Only one was completed.

The Teichfuss Cicogna was an Italian tailless single-seat motor glider designed by Luigi Teichfuss and flown in 1936.

The Teichfuss Sparviero was an Italian single seat aerobatic glider, designed by Luigi Teichfuss and flown in 1938.

The Teichfuss Balilla was an Italian single seat primary glider, designed by Luigi Teichfuss and flown in 1939.

The IIL IS-5 was a single seat, high performance sailplane designed by Iosif Șilimon and built in Romania in 1960.

The IIL IS-10 was a high-performance, single-seat glider, designed and built in Romania in the early 1960s. It was the first Romanian aircraft to use laminar flow airfoils.

The IIL IS-11 was an aerobatic, single seat glider, designed and built in Romania in 1959. It was built in small numbers.
